Gjin Gjoni is the icon of the judges of the old system...
Sali Berisha's Democratic Party has nominated Gjin Gjon in Lezha and Arjan Ndojë in the Durrës district for MPs.
If the legal possibility existed, the DP would also run former Chief Prosecutor Adriatik Llalla, who, along with the first two, are the only ones who have been active in Berisha's political rallies.
The candidacy of Gjoni and Ndoja has nothing to do with the logic of the opposition's criticism of the implementation of the justice reform, which has been strong and harsh in two aspects: vetting and appointments or confirmations in office.
In the vetting process, which has had its debates and other controversies, we have never had a battle by the opposition to protect those judges and prosecutors who have been excessively or unjustly punished by the vetting process.
There have been general positions rejecting the process, which en bloc is not unfair or wrong, but there have been many cases where there have been unfair decisions. Which have also been confirmed in the few cases taken to Strasbourg.
In other words, the DP has not taken any of these cases as candidates for MPs, but has brought in the head image of the old system, Gjin Gjon.
Who was not just a judge, but an important judge, who was also a member of the High Council of Justice. He is even the only member of the High Council of Justice who received paternity leave from the President of the Republic at the time, Ilir Meta, who also headed the High Council of Justice.
Gjin Gjoni is an icon for judges of the old system, just as Arjan Ndoja is for prosecutors. That is, a magistrate who was not a representative of the prosecution for events where he fought crime, but on the contrary, represented the amnesty of the property lobby in Lalzi Bay.
Of course, the DP could not make the entire body of judges and prosecutors of the old system, or those removed by vetting, candidates for deputies.
One-two or three is a representative measure of the political logic that has defended the DP against the justice reform that it calls Rama-form.
But who did he choose from that entire body of judges and prosecutors? Gjin Gjon and Arjan Ndojë! What is the reason for this selection? It seems that it is not political at all, it seems more tribal, and symbolic to show who is the profile of the character that Sali Berisha and his lobby like.
Among the multitude of judges and prosecutors punished by the new reform, there are many characters who have been part of the public debate, where they have been burned alive. Meanwhile, like Gjin Gjoni who did not enter the vetting process, like Arjan Ndoja who were ousted, represent a political symbol and are family-related to Sali Berisha and his clan.
In the old judiciary, Berisha and his family had many judges and prosecutors who were part of nepotistic connections, who normally could have been part of the political group, as they were on television panels.
If a poll were to be conducted, who do these two representatives represent in the old judiciary? Of course, the majority would consider these to be the most frightening part of that judiciary. These are exactly what Berisha chose, and this is a political choice.
