The arrest of Erion Veliaj is a major blow to the SP, which calls into question the impartiality of SPAK, where on one side of the scale we have SP officials persecuted to the point of ridiculous cases like that of the mayor of Devoll or Fushë Arrëz, and to go to the number twos of the SP, while on the other side the gloating continues for someone who should have been in prison since 2011...
For some time now, the opposition's desperation to see a crack in the SP wall had become an obsession, as they were clear that in the situation before February 10, they could not defeat the SP. And their attack was focused on two directions: The secondary one was with the formation of new parties, in the hope that they would remove a brick from the opponent's insurmountable wall.
The primary attack, however, was focused on Erion Veliaj. And not in vain. Seeing that there was no hope for a schism like Ilir Meta's in 2003, which led the Socialists into opposition, they now hoped to reach the same conclusion, but with the opposite side.
Veliaj's arrest is a double-edged sword. It makes the accusations of massive corruption in the ranks of the government convincing. But the biggest blow is related to the numbers. Veliaj was an electoral machine in the Tirana district. In several consecutive elections he had managed to win convincingly for himself and for the party, leading to a gap with Këlliçi in the last elections of 60 thousand votes.
Veliaj was no longer Mjaft's scoundrel, but an asset of the SP, who often took positions more left-wing than the official policy of the SP. Veliaj was the second generation after the Eurosocialists who brought a filling of the ranks of the SP with new blood. As if he was the man who in his positions against Berisha was more extremist than Rama.
His arrest is the crack the opposition was waiting for in the SP dam, to cause the same phenomenon as in 2005 that brought Nano's defeat, with the only difference being that now a faction will not vote, but there is a high possibility that the leftist voter will not turn out to vote, reducing the critical mass of voters needed for victory.
The arrest of Erion Veliaj is a major blow to the SP, which calls into question the impartiality of SPAK, where on one side of the scale we have SP functionaries persecuted to the point of ridiculous cases like that of the mayor of Devoll or Fushë Arrëz, and to go to the number twos of the SP, while on the other side the slander continues about someone who should have been in prison since 2011 and another ordinary fraudster.
This has caused Themis, the goddess of justice, to tip the scales all to one side, making her more similar to the pendulum.
Veliaj will answer for the charges against him, but in the meantime there are some other charges that have been made for years and that SPAK does not have the courage to open the file. Until when? Or is SPAK waiting until the elections are over?
