So I think there is no dilemma. But why does Berisha act like this, why does he accuse, make dirty claims, and even go so far as to desperately call on school students to protest?
So far, it seems like Sali Berisha is fighting with all his "batteries" to come to power. In fact, he knows very well that, with the DP in power with Berisha at the helm, it will never come. So, the "problem" is elsewhere. It is in what he does not accept easily, the innocence of the new justice.
Knowing that SPAK, or even GJKKO, are no longer the "Plepat" of the past, he is interested in opening the way. And the way is opened, not by being under criminal prosecution, not by being accused and in trial processes, but by assuming complete innocence. And until this happens, that is, until the criminal processes are closed, it takes time. Then this is not known, because the accusations against him are numerous.
So, Sali Berisha, with his battle as a "hardened Trumpist", only seeks innocence, after taking power from the Socialist Party and Edi Rama with a free vote, at a time when popular support has reached its peak, only having crossed the Atlantic about 100 times. But this has not happened, and is unlikely to happen.
By charging his own party, and the party's disoriented base, Berisha is trying to make it seem like he is "campaigning hard, cracking down hard on corruption". But is there anyone in Albania who believes his scenario? I believe that so far Albanians have shown their "love" for that party and President Berisha by voting about 10 times.
So I think there is no dilemma. But why does Berisha act like this, why does he accuse, make dirty claims, and even go so far as to desperately call on school students to protest?
Of course, he needs a clear picture to justify his intention. By calling for protests with several hundred people, or by insisting on calling even school children to "tik-tok" protests, he is trying to draw attention away from his main cause and only concern, to win an acquittal from the courts.
He does not take, and worse yet, he cannot hold power. There are 1001 reasons. First, he does not have the votes to win, he does not have the domestic and international support, he does not have the right staff and program, he does not have the right intellectual potential to lead even the municipalities, let alone the ministries and state structures. He has proven that he has failed, and he has destroyed the justice system when he has had power.
He has proven that he has plunged the country and the government into corruption, whenever he has had power. He has proven that he has not known how to maintain the right balance with the international community, and has damaged national interests whenever he has had power. And most importantly, he has ruled as a flag bearer and not as a statesman, whenever he has had power.
So Berisha does not seek power (since he knows he can never get it) but only innocence from the court. Only innocence would give him one more chance, even just once, to ascend the podiums of European chancelleries, as an amnestied politician, since he has no chance of ever touching the American ones again.
