Now, the only thing I have with SPAK in this story is their dirty game of holding popular trials. As soon as the hearing was over, they leaked the news to people they consider their "spies" in the media, which is what these portals boast about...
I saw that these portals that boast that they are informed directly by SPAK, have mentioned my name for communications with Erion Veliaj. If SPAK's new "evidence" is my claim as Erion Veliaj's friend and supporter, there is no need for investigations, because I am his public supporter. What need is there to eavesdrop on Erion Veliaj's conversations with his wife about me, to understand that I am a supporter of Veliaj?
Even when I wrote the first critical article about SPAK in this matter, I started from precisely such a circumstance, after prosecutor Olsi Dado had mentioned my name in the corridors of SPAK because I defended Veliaj, and he added two other accusations in the press release, because there are still no charges.
So, when they called him in for questioning, they told him he was a suspect on two charges, and after my writing they charged him with four. Now, I agree that Veliaj should be sentenced to 100 years in prison, but I do not agree that he should be sentenced to a single day in prison because he is my friend.
My relations with Veliaj are not related to any permission like the case of the prosecutor in the case, but as a senior political journalist in this country for 35 years, I have my relations with all Albanian politicians. I couldn't even go to prison with him, because they told me they wouldn't let me. I went to Fatos Nanos in Bënçë and interviewed him.
If I were a crime reporter, for example, like these girls and boys who appear on TV every night, I would surely be talked about by Suel Çela or Nuredin Dumani as their acquaintance. They would surely say: "Don't worry about so-and-so, we have him under control," just like the Sigurimi officers used to blackmail their collaborators.
If I were a showbiz journalist, I'd probably hear these names on my lips, but I'm not that lucky.
Since I am one of the most well-known political journalists in Albania, it is normal that my name will be mentioned in conversations with Erion Veliaj's family and they will comment on my writings. Sali Berisha also mentions me, cursing me with his collaborators. Just don't tell me that I need advice from Erion Veliaj, Sali Berisha, Edi Rama or Ilir Meta when I write. The opposite may be true.
If these rumors that politicians make about journalists are SPAK's evidence to keep Erion Veliaj in prison, then it is a problem of SPAK's standards and their unbridled instincts for personal revenge, and not a matter of justice. If these are SPAK's new evidence about Veliaj, they are very old. I have supported Erion Veliaj since 2003, when he took to the streets, 22 years ago. They don't have to use only this latest evidence.
Imagine Berisha's journalists going to Berisha's house for interviews when he was under house arrest, or walking from studio to studio, including cursing from the window, and not calling it evidence of pressure on justice.
Now, the only thing I have with SPAK in this story is their dirty game of holding popular trials. As soon as the hearing was over, they leaked the news to people they consider their "spies" in the media, which these portals boast about. I know they say that Veliaj's lawyers have received the letters, but Veliaj's lawyers are not taking the letters to Elvi Fundo. They are not taking them, not because he acts like a democrat, but because they consider him more of a friend of the socialist ministers who do not have good relations with Veliaj, and even paid by them, than as a democrat. Only Edi Rama knows him as a democrat. I am not sure about Berisha.
Now, if SPAK thinks it can hold a popular trial by selling the court session files to its own spies, it's simply exposing the spies, it's not like it's disrupting any of the rest of us.
I am pleased to learn that Erion liked the articles, and also that these SPAK people have administered them as new evidence of a crime. I simply have to remind them that freedom of expression is guaranteed by an article in the Constitution, and it is not within the competence of SPAK. They must win the battle for justice not by trampling on our freedom to express our opinions in the press, but on their ability to investigate a criminal case. We cannot compensate them for this, if they do not have it.
