The emergence of Vangjel Dules with accusations in the middle of the heat, while the boxes were open, or the accusations of Berisha and Meta without the boxes being closed, were the worst possible message for the electorate of Gjikurija
It was a chronicle of a foretold loss, as in the famous novel of the same title by Garcia Marquez. Everyone knew that Petro Gjikuria would not win against Vangjel Tavos. And he didn't win. It was a loss that you can smell from afar, as soon as you see the sides in the competition. The fall of Himara with a difference of 1500 votes, not only brings to 6 (out of 61 municipalities) the total number of right-wing administrative units in last year's local elections, but reveals once again that the Albanian opposition is not only objectively powerless against Rama in the election processes, but also that this, that is, our official opposition, has neither the desire, nor the will, and apparently not even the minimum wisdom to at least make life difficult for the socialists at the ballot boxes.
Just a few days ago, they had a long negotiation with the government about the rules for calculating mandates in the upcoming parliamentary elections. Even a part of the right admits today that Berisha took the closed lists from Rama, fortified the dominant position over the party and... paved the way for the socialists for a long mandate. And then they complain about losing everything that comes their way, including Himara.
When they negotiated with the government for the general elections, they could have thrown a word about August 4 in Himara. For those 6000 voters who did not have regular documents. Nothing says today that the PD-PL opposition put conditions on the table for the elections, to get Rama's agreement for the voting of voters with expired cards on August 4. And not to force the latter to issue a government decision to make it possible to vote with cards outside the deadline.
There is no critical voice, no public statement, no voice raised in the media or parliament by the opposition regarding the thousands of expired identity cards in Himare on August 4. The only voice was that of former interior minister Taulant Balla, who has called since July 22 for the renewal of cards, offering to provide voters with this document by August 3! For the opposition, the problem "appeared" as if by magic on the day of the vote, although it has been there since the beginning of the election. And then they cry for the 6,000 people left without voting on election day!
They left Himara again to Beler and Dula (the local PD opposed Gjikura), installing another minority candidate in a municipality where 80 percent of the voters are not Albanians, but Albanians. Once again, as in the case of Fredi Beleri, they didn't do anything with Gjikuri, who "is not even loved by his own tribe", as those who know the Coast area say. As for themselves, they continued to bathe in rivers and climb mountains (Ilir Meta), or fight with windmills under the balcony (Sali Berisha). And they complain why they didn't win Himara.
With a clear conscience, they left the electoral race for Himara in the hands of Vangjel Dule without a party, once again channeling the vote for that municipality into a ridiculous "proxy war" between Albania and Greece. Which included, as usual, the most banal nationalist sentiments of the press and Greek politics. We fed the hopes that this time we would also assist in a confrontation between Tirana and Athens, forgetting that Micotaqis now has no electoral campaign in his country. This is a calculation of the Albanian opposition that always comes out with a loss when the territory where the vote is located is in a province called Labëri and its administrative center is Vlora! And they continue to wonder why they lost Himara!
Finally, they cut off the wings of the Gjikuria race in the middle of the voting process. The emergence of Vangjel Dules with accusations in the middle of the heat, while the boxes were open, or the accusations of Berisha and Meta without the boxes being closed, were the worst possible message for the electorate of Gjikurija. Don't go to the polls, we were robbed, it's all over, it seemed as if the three were saying in chorus. And then they get upset because they lost Himara with a mountain of votes!
