The confrontation of the political teams that will compete on May 11th is the essence of the political struggle of the electorally warring parties.
Edi Rama's Socialist Party has brought a totally renewed list to all regions of Albania, while in the largest region, Tirana, they have left a concentration of left-wing Albanian senators.
Concentration, which was anyway allowed to compete on the open list, meanwhile in the closed part has placed the prime minister, two speakers of the Assembly, ministers and some new names coming from society.
It had never happened before that a political party brought about such a big change, removing more than 40% of the current parliamentary group. The political debate of May 11th begins with a new political face of the SP team, which many today call "anonymous".
Meanwhile, Sali Berisha, frustrated by Edi Rama's aggressive campaign with the swamp and owl narrative, has made a change in the list, but it is not a political change but a makeover. Berisha has not removed that part of the parliamentary group that was considered the most rusty by the years and his propaganda, but precisely the most popular in the primaries held despite problems within the militancy.

In a general logic, this could be called a standard, but it is different for a government that is playing with the change of the 12-year-old political class, and different for an opposition that seeks change, by bringing in an alternative team.
If you take them district by district, the lists of the SP and the DP in the districts differ greatly in terms of the logic of novelty. Where the government has dared to take risks with new, unknown faces. Which politically are playing with fire, since they are untested. Edi Rama's game is clear, in addition to the votes of the socialists after 12 years of power, he also seeks those of the gray electorate and of the DP supporters.
A year ago, such a political experiment took place in Shkodra with Benet Beci and proved successful. Edi Rama is bringing this pilot project to the national level. Risking a lot, since it is quite likely that the socialist electorate will not take it as the prime minister intends. But the response from the other side is more than defensive. Sali Berisha has put in the trenches an armored list of super loyal MPs, while he has brought out a few of the most popular ones within the DP to fight for the gray votes.
A more than defensive, existential game, which is also clearly visible in the logic of the way it approaches the public debate. On the other hand, the new parties have made a mistake from the beginning, giving a serious signal in the first test they are given, and most likely they will not have it again. The case of Lapaj who has put his father on the list is a scandal that has not happened with any old leader or old party in Albania. No one has done it, not even in the time of Zog, before Zog or communism. Tiku did it, bringing us as a novelty that a force that will bring innovation can put the whole family in the Assembly.
