Then, when the investigation was expected to deepen, they deepened the wiretapping and found inappropriate behavior in prison, and did not allow him to leave prison on appeal, not because of what he had been arrested for, but because of the way he had been treated in prison.
So, they put him in prison for disorderly conduct, and today they also communicated a new charge to him, also for disorderly conduct in prison.
When all of Albania, his supporters and enemies, are waiting to understand where Erion Veliaj's corruption lies, they receive news every day that he is not in prison for corruption, but for rude behavior towards police officers, investigators, and prison guards.
This is the most brutal persecution of any political leader in Albania since communism, surpassing the persecution of Fatos Nano by Sali Berisha. He did indeed guard him, eavesdrop on him, and punish him in vain, but he did not restrict him from meeting with family members or party leaders.
Beyond this, it seems that the prosecutors are also creating political scenes with his isolation, such as this famous rumor "about a rift" between Rama and Veliaj, due to the commanding leadership of the Municipality. Because Veliaj's only communication with the Municipality comes through his lawyer, and he received a request to replace the commanded leader, he took it for granted and signed it in good faith based on the truncated information he has from the deep isolation, and the next day, when it was clarified, he requested that the previous situation be restored.
Of course, all of this has procedural consequences, but even at this point, his prosecutors managed to produce political news about him, to actually stir up the persecution and personal lynching against him, adding new charges of misconduct in prison.
