Today, I say that Antonio Karaifili did not commit suicide. He was murdered. And now this has been proven. Justice delays, but it does not forget.
After 7 years of long, tiring and often hopeless battle, I can finally say with full voice: justice was served in the tragic case of citizen Antonio Karaifili.
An event that attempted to be hidden under the guise of a "suicide", but which was essentially a murder disguised, covered up and distorted by certain structures of the justice system and forensic medicine in Korça and the central medical center in Tirana who created false evidence.
Antonio Karaifili was found hanging from a tree. A scenario presented as suicide, but from the beginning it smelled of manipulation, fabrication and flagrant violation of the truth. From the first days, it was understood that something was wrong. The forensic medical examination reports did not match reality.
To cover up the murder, over 10 manipulated expert examinations were conducted, and forensic medicine, instead of serving as a guarantor of science and truth, became a tool in the hands of those seeking silence.
Instead of investigating it as a murder, the Korça Prosecution tried to close the case as a suicide. It requested three times to suspend the investigation, but justice still prevailed. Three times, Judge Arben Lera refused the suspension, returning the case for investigation and seeking the truth, not the comfort of a closed file.
Judge Arben Lera, with courage and integrity, became a shield of justice. In a system often subject to pressures and dark interests, he chose to do the right thing. In the end, he ordered the Prosecutor's Office to continue the murder investigation, sending a clear message: justice is no one's bargain.
Meanwhile, within the Korça Prosecutor's Office, for 7 years in a row, this case passed into the hands of about 7 prosecutors, who either gave up or chose to remain silent. But finally, a new voice, an honest voice, emerged on the scene, prosecutor Vasjana Postoli. New to the job, but equipped with courage, professionalism and honesty, Ms. Postoli took on the heavy burden of uncovering this event. And she succeeded. She took the investigation to the end, uncovering the truth that had been tried to hide at all costs.
This case is a living example of how corruption and institutional silence can hinder justice, but they cannot stop it forever. It is also a testament to the power of perseverance and dedication, because as a lawyer, I have not stopped pursuing this case for 7 years. I have fought every obstacle, I have refused to give up, and I have stood by the victim's family until the end.
A decisive role in this battle was also played by the investigative show STOP and Ora News television, which gave their voice when many media outlets were silent. They served as beacons of light on a dark path, keeping this event alive in the public eye and giving hope to a family devastated by injustice.
Today, I say that Antonio Karaifili did not commit suicide. He was murdered. And now this has been proven. Justice delays, but it does not forget.
This is a message to every citizen who has faced injustice. Don't give up. The truth is powerful. And when honest people — judges, prosecutors, lawyers, media, and citizens — come together, no crime can remain hidden.
I will continue to be the voice of the voiceless, as long as I have the strength.
