The ruling elite lives in perversion, is completely corrupted morally and consequently materially, and normalizes it.
We are in a deep, multidimensional crisis.
What the Epstein files show is related to the essence of decay. A society, a civilization, but also a country or a certain political and social organism (and undoubtedly a political system or a party), is not plunged into crisis, is not disfigured and is not overthrown by an external cause, by an external war, by a natural disaster or by something outside of it.
The decline comes from within. Arnold Toynbee, one of the greatest scholars of history and political philosophy, says that such declines occur because ruling elites degenerate morally: they become narcissistic, focused on their own lust and desires; they live in a moral space completely different from what they preach; they become completely disconnected from the people and their real needs.
The ruling elite lives in perversion, is completely corrupted morally and consequently materially, and normalizes it. As the crisis deepens, the elite and the pariah try to survive by relying more and more on force, not on moral legitimacy.
Meanwhile, the suffering of the weakest and the common people increases, while the elite, in the end, gives up. This logic also works semi-colonically to understand our political system and our parties.
