There is nothing funnier than being pro-Trump locally and anti-Trump globally.
As is often the case when conflicts in the upper echelons of the empire turn into ridiculous squabbles in the provinces, a wave of anti-Trump reactions has erupted here in Tirana. If you carefully observe their authors, you will notice that the vast majority are public supporters of Edi Rama and the party that has governed the country for more than a decade.
Converted from local servants to individuals with global concerns, they have sounded the alarm about the direction the world is taking, the risk of losing Ukraine, the injustice being projected in Gaza, the return of the Russian bear to the arena, the reversal of democracy in the US, the blocking of USAID funds, and the war being waged against Soros.
To be completely clear, the winds of change blowing in Washington are not the best thing that could happen to the globe. But if the US is reaping what it has sown, at least for the last three decades, since the end of the Cold War, the criticism of the bald billionaire is, at best, very hypocritical.
Trump may indeed be a politician who despises democratic rules, who challenges both science and the world order, who despises the media as much as those who think differently, who prefers force over morality and bargaining over justice, but given all this, it must be said that any possible criticism of him can only come from those who have long defended values different from his own.
With pro-ramist propagandists, the exact opposite happens.
They are scandalized by the idea of cleansing Gaza, which the US president copied from his son-in-law, while applauding the way Jared Kushner will become the owner of Sazan.
They warn of the possibility of losing Ukraine's Russian-speaking territories, while supporting the annexation of Northern Kosovo.
They denounce the rapprochement of the leader of the free world with a dictator like Putin, while they are not concerned when they see how elections are manipulated in their own country and political opponents are imprisoned.
They pout at Trump's brutality toward establishment media outlets like CNN and the New York Times, but almost orgasm when their leader slaps reporters who ask him questions without permission.
They pretend as if they cannot accept a liberal economy led by GAFAM billionaires, but they are at peace with the surrogate of Albanian capitalism reduced to swindler permits and monopolistic concessions.
They "use logic" to criticize the imperial turn the US is taking, while until yesterday they were shouting that everything that comes from across the ocean must be accepted unconditionally, including the idiocies spewed by Escobar, Palmer, or Yuri Kim.
For all these reasons and many more, there is nothing more ridiculous than being pro-Trump locally and anti-Trump globally.
Unfortunately, many of the opinions, statements, and articles of the past month, since the inauguration of the 47th president of the United States, have no connection to the values they defend or the beliefs of their signatories. Rather than being driven by the future fate of the world, they seem motivated by petty provincial interests. Instead of standing up for principles, they seem panicked by the loss of benefits.
It is not surprising that this sudden global approach is simply related to the fear that a cowboy ambassador will be sent to the headquarters on the road to Elbasan, who will persecute with McCarthyist methods all those who have had connections to the old network of NGOs and Sorosist diplomats. It is also not impossible that it all comes as a result of the panic that America will decide to undo some "non grata" in the establishment of which they have spent so much time and money.
The most grotesque thing would be that this sudden anti-Trump wave was simply a counter-reaction to the eternal Berserk enemies, who are also ridiculously caught in the crossfire after the drastic change that took place in the White House. If the opposition is strainingly describing the MAGA "revolution" as a ray of hope that will save Albania, its rivals have no choice but to paint it as a disaster for the world.
Regardless of which of these hypotheses may be closer to the truth, one thing is clear: in the battery of critical positions of the Ramists converted to anti-Trumpists, there is nothing connected with convictions or principles. Their approach is simply a provincial pettiness, which they should give up as soon as possible. Because, if a miracle happens and their spiritual leader finds his way back to the new power in Washington, they would be forced to lick - as has often happened to them - what they spat out during this month.
