Now it turns out that the "magician" has the only magical ability: to take your money and make fun of you.
The problem that LaCivita's mockery of the DP and Berisha as a whole, who paid him $6 million, creates is not simply that he does not believe in Berisha's victory and makes fun of their desire to have "an American" at the head of the campaign. The serious problem lies in the fact that Berisha is mocking the Democrats by presenting LaCivita as the magician who would save them from defeat.
That LaCivita has the right to mock the high price Berisha is paying is normal. Until now, Berisha's anti-American rhetoric has been based on "sovereignty", ignoring the power of the US and closing the doors to their influence in political life in Albania. Suddenly, this man who should be attacking anyone who hires American lobbyists in his campaign, not only goes and gets the most expensive one, but also presents this gesture as the only hope to work "magic" in the elections. He even claimed that this act had terrified even his opponent.
Now it turns out that the "magician" has the only magical ability: to take your money and make fun of you.
And this is hard for the Democrats, as they were told that the only hope for victory was LaCivita. The latter turned off the phone today, because he lost his client in Australia, while he is looking for a new, modest client — not as expensive as Berisha.
This is why Sali Berisha owes the Democrats an explanation: how will they win now without the "magician"?
LaCivita's mockery of Berisha and the DP is much more serious than that of "Bufi" by Edi Rama.
In fact, the only one who believed that Berisha was an "Owl" was LaCivita himself, after he treated him as such: he took his money and publicly ridiculed him.
Along with Berisha, he has also mocked Albanians in general as a people who believe that US involvement in the campaign will lead them to victory.
Berisha has actually been fighting for the opposite for 4 years: to convince Albanians that US involvement in Albania's internal politics should not be respected. And in the end, he gives up on this battle of his, even paying 6 million dollars to do so. Which shows that it was not his conviction, but simply his concern.
For this reason, he owes the Democrats an apology for LaCivita and for betraying himself and his belief that he could succeed against the US by fighting with them, not buying them off. Now he has betrayed both himself and the Democrats.
That $6 million is not a big loss — it's plenty.
