The tears of the deputy chairwoman of the electoral commission in the Fier region after the final catastrophic result for the DP in the May 11 elections show in the clearest possible way the despair and loss of hope of the Democrats in their leadership.
Her face, her tears, her crossed hands, and the subsequent burning in oil of this woman, was the clearest personification of how the Democrats felt powerless since, in the fourth consecutive confrontation with the Socialists, they not only failed to achieve victory but also marked the deepest defeat in the entire history of the Democratic Party.
The portrait of this simple and 'dead' democrat behind the party, her legitimate right, is the clearest picture that in the DP, the hope has finally died for this party to rise again and become, as it was, competitive to come to power.
Not that the Democrats had any hope of coming to power on May 11! Not at all. They didn't believe it. This was shown by the behavior of the DP leadership in the May 11 election campaign in particular, which coincided with a marked lack of spirit or enthusiasm for a positive result, a spirit that would be reflected in the party's base.
Everything had been turned off before it even started, combined with this lack of breath and the results of polls from all sides that showed the trend of these elections, for a result not only a loss for the opposition, but for a very deep defeat for the DP and the opposition on May 11th.
No one had imagined that the DP's loss would reach these proportions. We can say it without fear of catastrophe. Even the leader of the majority, Edi Rama, although in Kuçi's "memorandum" he had included a forecast that included a range of support from 78 to 88 mandates, had not predicted that with the results of May 11, the SP alone could 'threaten' to achieve the majority defined by 84 votes, as is likely after the counting and the diaspora vote.
With the publication of the disastrous result for the DP, the leader of this party, Sali Berisha, did not disappoint with his stance. Although he 'patienced' only one day after the elections without releasing his accusations to the public, as an alibi for the heavy defeat on May 11 against Rama, on Tuesday he came out with his voice and figure and declared that he does not recognize the elections. He accused the socialists of having bought them, of having stolen them and of having activated gangs close to the government to put pressure on them for the vote.
This is a 'movie' seen by Berisha every time he has lost the elections. And he has not lost a little in these last 12 years. After the elections he has always spoken with the same vocabulary, with the same accusations and with the same warnings towards the winner. He has never lost his mind, and this time in his parallel reality, he is the winner not with 72 mandates but with 82 mandates. Accusing Rama of having 'stolen' not 1 or 2 mandates, but a full 32 mandates of the deputy.
This is Berisha's mind. And if you take the statements he made over the years after each fatal defeat against his political opponent, do not display the period when he spoke, but also remove the picture to avoid comparing the portrait, Berisha declared the same things in 2013, in 2017, in 2021 and this Tuesday after the May 11 elections. We are not taking into account the losses in the local government elections here.
Even after these elections, Berisha blamed the government, socialist leader Rama and the 'traitors' within the right for the devastating defeat in the elections, warning of a protest on May 16, precisely on the day and moment when the leaders of the EU and regional countries are in Tirana, at the political summit. Berisha has always been a 'partisan' of ruining the celebration. He even warns that the revolution has just begun. Just like his predecessor who expelled him from the leadership, Lulzim Basha, but without managing to lay his 'egg'. After all, in 2021 Basha alone, without the LSI, received over 600 thousand votes for the DP, more than Berisha, Meta and all the DP allies together on May 11.
To 'inflate' his alibi of defeat and the fact that the fault does not lie within the DP for this collapse of this party, Berisha brings out one by one his political 'kamikazes' who blame the people who vote for a 'scumbag like Edi Rama and are not inspired by Sali Berisha". He brings out losing DP candidates who have not received a single vote to declare that they are ashamed of being from the south, or Noka who accuses the entire people in Vora, near Gërdec in a word, the media and the entire world for leaving the DP alone in the face of what he calls Edi Rama's drug lords. Only Berisha and the DP leadership are not at fault, as if they have not been on this planet all this time and since 1992. In fact, they are the same faces who vegetate and 'suck' the remaining marrow of the DP just to vegetate in the Assembly.
But the deep defeat of the DP in the May 11 elections has one name as the main responsible, if not the only one responsible. He is Sali Berisha, the man who for 35 years has led this party with an iron fist, without ever letting go of it. Neither when he was president, nor when he was prime minister, nor when he was in opposition, nor when he was 'resigned' and officially at the head of the DP was Lulzim Basha.

Gremisje që nuk po ndalet dhe në vijim me sa duket.
Që me shpalljen ‘non grata’ nga SHBA për korrupsion madhor, minim të demokracisë dhe shantazhim të drejtësisë, më pas ‘non grata’ dhe nga Britania, por sidomos me përjashtimin e tij nga ana e Lulzim Bashës nga grupi parlamentar i PD dhe më pas nga vetë PD, Berisha ka punuar me mish e shpirt për të ndarë, shkatërruar dhe zotëruar ‘copën më të madhe’ të PD, vetëm për hallin e tij personal, atë të përballjes me drejtësinë për akuzat e e rënda që ka në kurriz si dhe izolimin e thellë ndërkombëtar.
U përball me Bashën në dyert e gjykatave për vulën dhe logon e PD të cilën përmes njerëzve të tij në drejtësi e mori, pavarësisht se kishte tentuar të marrë selinë e PD më 8 janar me një sulm banditesk me qysqi dhe varre e mjete të tjera rrethanore, ngjarje e paparë në historinë e partive politike shqiptare, të një ‘lufte civile’ brenda një partie siç kishte ndodhur në PD.
Falë dhe paaftësisë proverbiale të Bashës, Berisha ia doli e mori dhe pjesën më të madhe të deputetëve të PD kundërshtarë të tij me në krye Gaz Bardhin, i futi në grup dhe i përdori edhe ata për hallin e tij personal, të personifikuar në kërcimin viral nën ritmin e këngës për vetë Sali Berishën. Tundën ‘belin’ me një fjalë, që nga Bardhi e deri tek më i fundit, dhe pak nga ata që kishin kaluar nga Basha tek Berisha, arritën të futen në listat e sigurta të PD më 11 maj.
Përpëlitja e Jorida Tabakut apo dhe të tjerëve në ‘pragun’ e hyrjes në Kuvend e tregon se Berisha i përdori të gjithë për hallin e tij personal dhe as që e kishte mendjen tek një rezultat pozitiv në zgjedhje. Donte një grusht besnikësh të verbër në Kuvend dhe këtë ia arriti me listat e mbyllura.
Ndonëse mori një këshulltar amerikan që kishte organizuar fushatën e Trump, siç ishte Chris LaCivita, Berisha më shumë e paraqiti si përfaqësues të administratës së re amerikane se sa si strateg fushate, duke e keqpërdorur emrin e tij pafund. Me sa duket ia ka vlejtur për LaCivitën, pasi sipas gjasave ka pasur një kontratë të majme miliona dollarëshe, që me gjithë këmbënguljen e mediave, Berisha nuk ka preferuar ta zbardhë. Madje dhe kur e pyesnin për faturën e kësaj kontrate, Berishës nuk i ‘shkonte zëri’ në vesh.

They are expected to remain in this position indefinitely, despite the millions of dollars they have thrown and can throw, even for a US visa. They don't have their own money, to 'wrinkle' their hand now and in the future.
The 'astronomical' defeat of the DP and the opposition was also influenced by the aggravated behavior of Berisha, tired from the years of deep old age and burdened by severe dementia, to the point that he never 'shot' the exact date of the elections in public statements, let alone reached a precise articulation of other things. These and many others that have been endlessly repeated, are the causes of the deep defeat of the DP. In a word, with the same faces, and with the same 35-year strategy, Berisha sought a different result on May 11, 2025. This is impossible, the world has moved on.
Berisha is not to blame for the people who do not understand and only vote for Rama, nor for the Democrats who are now forced to remain in opposition for another 16 years, nor for the allies or former allies who distanced themselves from him, nor for Edi Rama's 'drug state' for the deep defeat of the DP.
The only culprit for this loss and degradation of the DP is only one, Sali Berisha. Who, after taking the DP hostage, has decided to further ruin it, while making all efforts and is determined to remain at the head of the DP until the Almighty, the great God, takes him in eternity. He is doing this, while simultaneously looking for alibis for the loss. Regardless of the fact that the DP is his property, and he uses it when and where the need arises.
Ultimately, Berisha is the winner. He has a 'guard' of 50 MPs, whom he uses for his personal troubles. Lost are the Democrats who have remained within the vicious circle of Berisha's troubles, unable to produce a new leadership and who until now nostalgia has kept them in the DP. And the hope that one day the DP will rise again. Like the Democrat of Fier, who lost this hope, drowning in tears in front of the cameras.
