Sali Berisha has surprised quite a bit, not only with the name of the coalition, but also with its composition. A total of 26 parties with opposing identities have lined up to make Albania great, like Donald Trump's MAGA. There are republicans who will gather votes together with monarchists, ballists on the side of pensioners and two pairs of Catholic parties. Not counting the liberals of Arian Starova who shake hands with the conservatives of Kujtim Gjuzi. While the biggest surprise is the 'ability' to bring together the Macedonians of Vasil Sterjovski with the Greeks of Vangjel Dule and the latter with the Chams of Shpëtim Idrizi.
At the peak of Berisha's love for Athens, it seems that the leader of the PDIU has overthrown every principle that has raised him in politics, by joining this hybrid coalition. And in fact, Berisha's love for Greece is not something new, when all his recent political discourse has started with the candidacy and public advocacy of Fredi Beleri, or the countless promises in the Greek media as if he were a vassal of Athens. All this after he also appeared with Beleri in Athens, in front of a handful of Albanians whom Berisha confused with minorities and spoke to them in Greek: Efkaristo poli….
It is enough to remember the pledge to restore the 2009 maritime agreement or the statements to the Greek media that he will review relations with Turkey. Politicians all over the world promise improved relations, while Berisha promises another country that he will ruin relations with that country's neighbors. But these are 'sins' that we are used to seeing in Sali Berisha and for which he is bearing and will bear electoral costs for a long time.
The question is what principles have brought the Cham PDIU into coalition with the Greeks of the PBDNJ and with an Albanian coalition leader who is more Greek than the Greeks? How can the interest in a deputy seat prevail over dozens of hours of sermons on television by Idrizi against Fredi Beleri, where he listed everything; from the Peshkëpi Massacre to the candidacy in Himara. Only three years ago, Beleri triumphed over his victory as a victory for Hellenism. This statement angered Idrizi, who commented on it as a paradox and a decline in standards in politics. But today, as he is under a coalition umbrella with the Beleri parties, what is the justification other than the mandate?
