The heroes of the founding of the DP are now being replaced by the heroes of the "Reestablishment" of the DP, who, unlike the first, are not the ones we honor for standing up to the dictatorship, but in the end they were eliminated by Sali Berisha, but the heroes of young people, who serve Sali Berisha for corruption or ordinary acts, and now we have to bring the PD to its knees before them.
At the 34th anniversary ceremony of what is left of the former Democratic Party, the evening did not begin as usual with its old history, with the December movement or with the commemoration of those who overthrew communism in Albania. For years, even when PD was in power, but even when it was abandoned in the opposition, this anniversary was held only to remind Albanians that they were the party of heroes that overthrew the dictatorship and opened Albania to the West.
Last night the heroes had changed. They were two people who are in prison, one for fraud and the other for corruption, convicted by the new Albanian justice system.
One is the son-in-law of Sali Berisha, co-sufferer and co-thief with him, in one of the typical stories of state capture in Albania by the prime minister's family members. He privatized a sports complex, with favorable procedures for him, declaring him the former owner of a part of the land, and then the entire state of the prime minister, who is his father-in-law, was a soldier of the son-in-law.
Yesterday, in that hall that was supposed to have a little bit of solemnity, the guests who were people selected in relation to the dismissal under the groom's window, sat and listened to their new hero, Jamarbër Malltezi, the husband of Argita Berisha, who made them calling on the PD to save him from the prison of the dictatorship where he had been put.
So, in a way, the story of the DP and its heroes of anti-communism was being converted into the story of its thieves, who face justice.
And the hall sent him away humbly and drowsily.
The same with Salianji, a former deputy used for dirty political warfare, convicted by two Albanian courts. Even he, taking pictures of the new hero of the DP, asked the empty people in that hall to save him from the dictatorship of Edi Rama, who put him in prison.
I don't have so much with the social positions of Salianji in prison, since maybe it would be better to leave that sentence in freedom, but with the fact that PD is converting in its historical anniversaries, the heroes who founded it as an anti-communist party, pro-Western, with "non grata" people and their collaborators convicted of ordinary crimes. But above all, the PD is being forced to kneel down to Sali Berisha's son-in-law with corruption charges, Sali Berisha himself with national and international charges and their misused associates for ordinary crimes.
