Berisha's attempt to discourage candidates outside the DP

In two days, Berisha will be without a candidate again and will offer someone from within the DP...

Caught by surprise by the elections in Tirana, having just created comfort within the DP, Sali Berisha now has to build a scheme on how to get rid of the candidates from outside the DP who are being imposed on him in these elections. Clearly that the failure to reach an alliance with the other parties will give him a catastrophic result, he is trying to burn the candidates in order to get them to support his candidate, who will be someone who does not disrupt his work within the DP.

After today's meeting of the presidency, he said that "we will see who will run as an independent candidate to decide whether we will support them". So, he has given two days to the contenders outside the DP to offer themselves as independent candidates who will be supported by the DP, and then he will choose who works for him. This process, which of course will not happen, aims to discredit the candidates in advance and put them in a humiliating selection process, in order to take them out of the hands of other opposition parties.

I hope no one falls into this trap. And I don't think there's a chance.

In two days, Berisha will be without a candidate again and will offer someone from within the DP. The only difference is that he will say: “As you saw, there are no others besides the DP who want to run.”

As I suggested to candidate Ermal Hasimja the other day, he should announce his candidacy if he intends to run, without engaging in negotiations with the DP. If announcing his candidacy is conditioned by negotiations with the DP, he is simply consuming a process of humiliation and despair, both for himself and for the other candidates. It is the DP that is fighting for a winning candidate and it should calculate who is harming it in the campaign, not the small parties. Small parties are fighting to shape their profile in politics.

The point is, Arlind Qorri is clear in his decision-making. He will run for mayor himself, as a representative of a left-wing party, targeting the disillusioned electorate of the Socialist Party.

The parties that emerged from the DP should have the same clarity. If they want to impose themselves on the DP, they cannot impose themselves through negotiations, but through good candidates. Then the DP should do its own calculations.

The truth is that the DP is not fighting to win the Mayor's Office, but is fighting to avoid being embarrassed worse than in other elections. This is the reason why they neither have candidates nor do they want others to have candidates. The DP needs power in the opposition, not power in Tirana. And all of Berisha's moves are to not take the opposition, not Tirana. Tirana belongs to Edi Rama and he doesn't feel bad about it. His only concern is that they don't interfere with the opposition's cake and take a piece of it. That's the only reason he's ready to negotiate. So he's started to discourage other candidates outside the DP, asking them to run for office and then let him select them. As if they're going to do a fashion show for two days and then the jury will announce the most beautiful one.

It is simply a process of humiliating them and returning to his anonymous political candidates. More or less like he did when he elected Bujar Nishani as president, when until the end he pretended to elect Xhezair Zaganjori and Artan Hoxha, after being assured that he would disqualify both of them.
