Instead of Çyrbe's case raising the opposition to overthrow the government, it cannot benefit from such a political scandal. Because it spends its energy to protect its leader from SPAK and not the citizens from government corruption.
Most probably the current government is one of the most corrupt governments of the Albanian transition. This is not an opinion, but a fact. As never before, dozens of mayors of the Socialist Party have been accused, investigated or arrested for corruption. Perhaps corruption is coming to the fore recently due to the activity of SPAK, but the fact remains. Former ministers, deputies, officials, even the former deputy prime minister have been convicted. Recently, several directors of the Tirana Municipality, of the government, have been arrested. Even its chairman himself, one of the people with the most power in Albania, Erion Veliaj, has appeared at the doors of SPAK.
And yet, even though it must be a huge cost for the government, Edi Rama has never criticized, cursed or attacked SPAK for his investigations even though he has taken close collaborators. Of course, under the rug, he did his best to stop these investigations against his power. And seeing that he could not succeed, he turned the fight against corruption from a cost into an advantage. It seems paradoxical, to the point of political schizophrenia, but instead of giving an account of corruption, Rama turns it into an advantage by telling the Albanians that it is his will that is fighting it, and he is the one who made the Justice Reform. He has even invented a parliamentary commission that he calls the anti-corruption commission.
Of course, this approach has nothing real, it is just a political strategy. Since he cannot stop the progress of SPAK's investigations, Rama will turn the fight against corruption into a battle horse in the next campaign. Because it is well known that he is one of those leaders who does not look at adversity in certain circumstances, but turns them into an advantage.
Not for nothing does he protect any character of his power whenever they fall into SPAK's net. And that's why Rama "sells" his people. The truth is that he doesn't "sell" them, he just gets the most even in difficulties such as corruption in his government.
On the other hand, we have a totally opposite behavior of the Democratic Party. Every time one of its members is investigated, accused or even arrested, it criticizes SPAK, considers it a criminal organization, or even a tool of the government. This behavior has existed since the investigation of its leader Sali Berisha until the arrest of Ilir Meta. By behaving in this way, the Democratic Party is losing one of the main causes of the opposition, that of the fight against corruption.
This cause is being lost precisely by attacking SPAK every day, the institution tasked with investigating corruption. The two main reasons why this part of the opposition is losing the cause of the fight against corruption are precisely the investigation of its leader for corruption, and the daily attack on the institution that has the duty to investigate it. Every day they make policies and protests against corruption investigated by SPAK, and at night they consider it as a criminal organization.
This behavior, apart from causing the opposition to lose one of its main causes, is not even electoral. Because SPAK currently has great support in the Albanian public opinion; about 70 percent. Paradoxically, the Democratic Party has also left the fight against corruption as an advantage to Edi Rama and his power, while this government simply has to account and bear responsibility for its corruption. A political contradiction more unique than rare.
The Albanian opposition, mainly PD, instead of sacrificing its leaders to gain power, is sacrificing power to protect its leaders. In fact, with the attack on SPAK, it is turning into a shield for all the corrupt government officials. Instead of Çyrbe's case raising the opposition to overthrow the government, it cannot benefit from such a political scandal. Because it spends its energy to protect its leader from SPAK and not the citizens from government corruption.
