After the success achieved in the fight against the international traffic of hard drugs, illegal construction, cannabis, organized crime and street crime, it was natural that the second-hand clothes trade would also come...
Today, the Albanian police managed to neutralize a line of smuggling through the action coded "fake work".
In coordination with international partners, using special investigation methods and intelligence services, today the police agents managed to arrest two citizens and declare three others wanted for smuggling used clothes from Belgium to Albania.
As material evidence, 5455 kilograms and 374.2 grams of used clothes were seized. The file, which contains 34 hours of wiretapping, was forwarded to the prosecutor's office for further investigation.
"This is a clear and unequivocal message that is sent to organized crime," said a police officer on condition of anonymity because of the high risk of investigating this case.
If the traffickers were able to sell their goods on the market, the state coffers would lack a full 14,200 lek and considering the unstoppable strengthening of the lek against the euro, the dollar and all foreign currencies taken together , the damage is extremely high - said the willing prosecutor who performed the first procedural actions
Today's action is seen by local observers as an attempt by the police to show the new minister that despite the high temperatures, the readiness of the law enforcement structures remains at the maximum level.
The news found wide coverage in the press of the day. The media emphasized the fact that the police feel more motivated after the announced motto: "zero tolerance to lawlessness"
A journalist's question about whether it is dry, wet, washed or unwashed clothes was not answered due to "investigative secrecy".
"We are in the advanced phase of the investigation, but we are still waiting for the sample data from a laboratory of a partner country" - announced a police spokesperson.
He added that the mobile phones of the traffickers of used clothes have been sent to be disassembled in a specialized laboratory in Israel.
After the success achieved in the fight against the international traffic of hard drugs, illegal constructions, cannabis, organized crime and street crime, it was natural that the trade of old clothes would also come - said a security expert in a television studio of one of the 15 television stations that provide 24-hour news.
"It is expected, continued the expert, that police strikes will intensify, especially in the crime of bribing a nurse or doctor. Fines will also be increased against pedestrians who do not walk on the white lines, causing drivers who use the "white" to cause accidents with serious consequences.
After the well-known success of the "Forca e ligjit" operation, today's "fake work" operation has significantly increased the public's trust in the police, a trust that had been shaken after an isolated episode in Fushë Krujë, where the family members of a deputy, hit two citizens for the sole reason that "they had disturbed the police with a report".
"With today's operation, the police we love is proving with deeds and not words, with concrete actions and not with propaganda that it has risen to the level of its European sisters and beyond and Albania is another step closer to European integration"- said a deputy of the majority at the meeting of the security committee in the Assembly, specially called for this issue.
For its part, the police assured that such operations will continue and intensify.
