Today I saw Ervin Salianji who had tried to convene a debate table, about the clear rules that parties should establish for their internal elections to maintain the legitimacy of the elected and the imposition of democracy as a way of functioning. It is a request that has been repeated for 35 years in political life in Albania and is ignored due to the need to use it. The only case when the DP went to court for a lack of rules was after the Berisha-Basha clash, a clash which legally revealed that the party had not respected any formal procedure for the deposition of elected officials in the years in the party, including the chairman.
The debate that Salianji seeks to open is unfortunately no longer in his hands, but in the hands of those who have caused this legal illegality in the functioning of political parties. Simply put, within the DP it is in the hands of those who are with Berisha and those who have surrendered to Berisha.
But even here there is a distinction that needs to be made.
To understand what Berisha has done to the DP, do not attack those who idolize Berisha or those who are at the top of the DP as his bodyguards. They are the most "honest" part of Berisha's DP, because apart from being convinced that their only value is to be loyal to Berisha, they do not know how to do anything else in life. Their entire life revolves around their idol.
The problem in the DP now is not the fools, but those who consider themselves non-conformist intellectuals and who fought with Berisha during the “great schism” between Berisha and Basha. Regardless of how the parties were divided, that battle showed that Berisha is not an idol for everyone, but is a vulnerable, objectionable, and even mortal person like everyone else. Many of them have been extremely aggressive with him, to the point that I could feel sorry for him too.
Now all of them are trying to appear useful to Berisha as people who can protect him from external enemies, meaning Americans, Germans, English, etc., by occasionally bringing someone who comes to Tirana to visit the old man imprisoned in SHQUP, and even worse, they are all silent about Salianji. A few months ago they were intolerable in filling the courtroom where a trial against Salianji was taking place, to show him solidarity in difficult days and demonstrating pressure on the court, which is not normal and not useful for Salianji himself. It only applies to human solidarity.
Now that Salianji is raising an issue that has to do not only with him, but also with their future tomorrow in the DP after Berisha regains his mandate, they are all with Berisha and there is not a single voice in favor of Salianji. The stupidity may even go so far as to legally legitimize Flamur Noka's statement that: "Salianji has self-excluded himself."
In fact, the only way for them not to bow 90 degrees to Berisha is to support a clear legal process that defines the rules in the election of the mayor, if they do not want their whole lives to slip away justifying that we will serve Berisha to put us on the lists. This silence of theirs towards a legitimate battle for the DP actually reveals the lack of any principle for their previous battles as well. Or better said: it reveals the price at which they surrender their heads to Berisha's frying pan.
But no one else needs it except him. So there is no need for them to let themselves be shamed. The problem of the DP is them, not Flamur Noka or his gang. They are Berisha's useful idiots who can probably keep him from the Uturak tomorrow, while these useful "smart" people of his are simply there to mask the bad smell of the Uturak.
