This would be the great chance but also the last of this party, otherwise if it continues with the continuation of the works where they were left, this party is destined to be destroyed even more. And the red carpet for Rama and the SP will begin to be rolled out right now. The 2025 election year is coming very soon.
The Democratic Party has also run away from the crossroads. In the current situation it is at a dead end. He has completely lost his way and does not know where he is or where he is going. In short, this party is broken. He who does not understand this, either has not got drunk, or has some great interest. With the heavy defeat he suffered, the perception has already been created in the public opinion that the Socialist Party and Edi Rama have paved the way to victory in the fourth term in the parliamentary elections of 2025.
Attempts to attribute the defeat in the local elections only to "his machinery and gangs" are no longer acceptable. Neither the daily press conferences by Sali Berisha of Re-establishment, nor Lulzim Basha's coming out in a Zelensky T-shirt for the "big return" nor Gazmend Bardhi's haste to assemble the parliamentary group and the presidency that only he knows exists are relevant anymore. . But what should the Democratic Party do in this situation? How should he solve the crisis, even deeper and more serious than it was before the May 14 elections? And, more importantly, who should do it? There are several questions that are posed as imperative for this party.
BERISHA GOES, BASHA DOESN'T COME BACK!
Of all that is happening there, the main problem for the majority who understand but do not express it, remains Sali Berisha. Not only is he not resigning, but with the cause of election theft, he is leading this party to an even more serious situation. Sali Berisha has an undeniable political record in his career. He has many merits as a politician in these 33 years, as well as defects and mistakes throughout this career. No one can deny his merits and no one can deny what he has given to the DP and the country in these 33 years. His name has entered the history of post-communism as one of the two or three most important and dominant politicians in Albanian politics.
One of the leaders of the December 1990 Movement, one of the founders and chairman of the Democratic Party, the first opposition party in the history of Albania, president and prime minister elected for two terms, we do not believe it is exaggerating to say that in particular years he has era. Just as he has serious mistakes on his shoulders, such as usury and the events of 1997. But that's it. In the situation that PD is in, Sali Berisha is really an obstacle. The worst thing is that no one has the courage to tell him and no one has the courage to take an initiative, not against the name of Sali Berisha as a person, but in the interest of the future of DP. But this must happen because this is the only way PD is freed and increases the chances to reorganize on the basis of democratic and not dictated principles.
At the same time, the intention to return Lulzim Basha, as the direct author and the person responsible for the destruction of the PD and the Albanian opposition, is equally serious. Attempts to support Berisha, but also attempts to bring Basha, are really defeatist and destructive for this party. The biggest affliction of this party is that it looks increasingly old both in middle age and in thought. Even if we exclude the 79-year-old Sali Berisha, the average age in the dome of this party is more than 50 years old, which says a lot. Some figures, although they have contributions, are old. Tritan Shehu has been 74 years old for three months and Edmond Spaho is 65 years old.
THE GREAT MISLEADERS
Tomorr Alizoti looks like a worthy character of the novel "And the stars stand and gaze" by the Scottish novelist Archibald Cronin. The story called him, but he told her "I'm sorry, I'm talking on the phone". Neither with Basha, nor with Berisha, but somewhere in the middle, without leaving any traces of sacrifice, he is not at all like his predecessors who gave so much to Albania. Jorida Tabak always gets a job, and when she realizes that she lost it, she makes a one-on-one TV appearance with a journalist who neither asks her nor she answers. And for the rest, Tirana did not win the championship title so that she could wear the white and blue uniform and make a status on Instagram as "Tirona fan". Agron Gjekmarkaj has entered philosophy and it is a great pity that a well-educated and capable professor,
He did not even listen to his friend Mark Marku, who, for the sake of truth, had all his predictions come true and, being alone, unjustly received many attacks. Saimir Koreshi has chosen Lushnje as the capital, not only to live, but also to do politics, as if it were 1920. A boy educated in the West, with a good education and a sense of humor, should not have been inactive in all this situation. Skyping on the screens makes you realize that it was somewhere, but not where it should be. These politicians are the ones who are believed to have disappointed the PD electorate the most. They should have been the ones who should have undertaken political actions not to divide but to unite the PD. And with the Democratic Party should be called and evaluated all its parts, such as Reestablishment and the official Democratic Party. And in order to achieve this, neither party nor the other party managed to unite and reconcile this party. The promises that they would realize the great reconciliation have already failed.
THE BASE IS MORE ADVANCED THAN THE CENTER
How to solve the crisis of the Democratic Party
When everyone was waiting for the solution for the future of this party to come from the center, in fact it has started to come from the base. Immediately after the loss of the May 14 elections, two decisions were taken in the branch that really constitute the essence of everything that is happening in this party. Shyqyri Dura, the head of the PD branch in Berat and Luigj Gjoka, the head of the PD in Shënkoll, resigned after losing the election, giving an example of the responsibility they have for this result. They are simple, honest and democratic decisions taken by two unknown local politicians, but which have given a big lesson to the party dome. The data shows that others can do this as well. And this would mean that the solution to the reformation of the Democratic Party is coming from the base and not from the center.
THE COUNCIL OF THE SAGE
But what should PD do? I modestly say and I have repeated that there is a solution that can achieve a great union. The urgent establishment of a council of sages to take the fate of this party into their own hands would be of first-hand importance. The creation of this council should be done with PD personalities who have neither interests nor career aspirations and their names are numerous. I am listing some such as: Aleksandër Meksi, Mark Marku, Albina Karamitro, Fatos Beja, Alfred Serreqi, Dylber Vrioni, Rexhep Uka, etc. There may be others who will constitute an institution to solve this crisis. The second action should have been to merge and dissolve all structures and divisions both in the official DP and in Refoundation by declaring a total reorganization of the party. After that, the party should go through a process of structuring through voting to arrive at a party based on more democratic principles. Then a clear platform for the preparation of the parliamentary elections of 2025 should be drawn up, which would also constitute the strategy of the entire opposition.
WHO ARE THE ONES WHO NEED TO MAKE THE BIG CHANGE?
But who should make the revolution within the DP? Of course the elders can't do it. With great respect for what they have contributed to this party, but thanks not only to age, some of them no longer contribute, but they are and are becoming an obstacle. They keep taking and giving nothing. It is imperative for those who are young to become the initiators of everything that needs to shake this party to rebuild it.
Of course, revolutions are made by 18-20 year olds, and the best thing would be that even in PD, the solution would come from the Youth Forum of this party. But with few exceptions, this forum is more ready only to organize protests than to be part of political actions within the party. We remember that when it was founded in 1990, young people were the base of this party with 20-year-olds, most of them students. Thus, the solution can only come from the youth of the parliamentary group, or the youth of the structures that are in the center.
One of the young politicians who have the premise to achieve this is Ina Zhupa, who has shown more character than interests. She is young and her vision has been very clear. The actions and battles in which he has been involved in politics have grown so much that they have become causes for the entire opposition. The issue of Butrint and the Academy of Sciences remains not only its political battle but also one of the most interesting of the PD and the entire opposition.
Belind Kelliçi is one of the only ones who won from losing in the May 14 elections. His political profile has grown a lot and even though he is not a deputy, he has a lot of data to climb even higher in politics. I just need to work on turning humility into a natural quality. He has data to initiate a movement within the DP and this is his moment.
Although he is middle-aged, Luciano Boçi looks much younger for his nature and energy. Unconsumed politically, he has the premises to be a promoter of many developments in DP. Above all, there is experience. These three should bring other politicians around themselves to start a process of reformation of this authority that starts with the creation of the Council of Wise Men, to the great reconciliation of all parts and to the re-establishment of new structures. This would be the great chance but also the last of this party, otherwise if it continues with the continuation of the works where they were left, this party is destined to be destroyed even more. And the red carpet for Rama and the SP will begin to be rolled out right now. The 2025 election year is coming very soon.
