If only Rama loved Kosovo as much as Georgia Meloni

When it comes to Kosovo, Rama becomes sterile and monotonous. He abandons the spectacular language to use that of an international referee....

Anyone who has followed Edi Rama's presentation on the international scene has no difficulty understanding that monotony bores him. He is afraid of being ordinary or of copying predetermined patterns. So fit, he challenges everyone, appearing at international summits with Adidas. He will stand out at any cost, breaking the rules of protocol as in the last, almost erotic embrace with Georgia Meloni.

Even in articulation this behavior does not change. He avoids the weight of a microscopic country, provoking in the middle of Brussels, that President Erdogan and not the EU came to help Albania, when it needed vaccines. He does not hesitate to be very critical of the lazy and bureaucratic machinery of Brussels, when it comes to the Berlin process or the integration of the countries of the Western Balkans.

So Edi Rama behaves like an atypical politician, who uses every method to be spotted in the picture of the family of the big ones.

With one exception…

When it comes to the Kosovo-Serbia conflict, our prime minister becomes as much a quadrovik template as his counterpart Kovacevski, who held him by his side during the Bratislava summit.

At least from the time of the pressure for the abolition of the 100% tax of Haradinaj, until the last conflict for the introduction of the mayors of municipalities with a Serbian majority, he copies the same language and the same attitudes that come from ready from Washington and Brussels. In tweets, in speeches abroad and in interviews with foreign media, he resembles a low-ranking diplomat who has been deprived of the right to fantasy, stripped of the ability to use nuance and color. It's as if someone restricted him in appearance and forbade him to wear the three-stripe sneakers or the ties he designs himself.

He was so harsh with Ramush Haradinaj that the latter was forced to declare that he was under more pressure from Rama than from Merkel and Macron. Even with Pristina's approach to dialogue, he has behaved, not as Prime Minister of Albania, but as a spokesman for the West, warning that the international community is running out of patience with Kosovo.

This line of behavior has become uniform since the conflict over the reciprocity of license plates began in September 2021. Whenever there was tension, the Prime Minister of Albania was either silent, or waited more than 24 hours to respond, before he received any recommendations from outside, and even when he did this he did not say anything more than what the public had heard from Borelli, Lajcak or Escobar.

But, in the end, for the weight of Edi Rama's statements, each of these hypotheses has little importance. The fact is that when he talks about Kosovo, he doesn't say anything. He gets lost among the standard phrases that have lost their resonance or curiosity because everyone has heard them before, expressed by international referees. Therefore, when he has to talk about these things, he doesn't have the freedom of hugging Melon, but looks like he's wearing a Terital suit.
