In the heart of the Southeast of the country, a miracle is unfolding before the Albanians and the world.
Ever since the time when "Egnatia" street was built, no other construction site of such dimensions has been seen where work is being done day and night, for 15 years in a row.
We are not dealing with an ordinary road, but with a testimony of unwavering commitment to turn procrastination into perfection and art.
Stretching for a full length of 35 kilometers, the Korçë-Ersekë road and vice versa, is one of the great masterpieces of the Albanian infrastructure, for which the Albanians do not spend a single lek because the budget pays for it all.
The road is the most accurate embodiment of the government's favorite expression: "Good works take time, good things never happen".
Today, an unexpected event has surprised big and small. Journalists have discovered that a segment of this legendary road has collapsed.
This unexpected development has been met with anxiety and admiration, while the residents themselves continue to be amazed by the government's ability to keep them waiting for 10 years and still hope for a better day.
The Ministry of Eternal Works, a newly formed department that oversees and ensures that road projects started 12 years ago are never finished (Tirana Ring Road, Qukës - Qafë Plloçë Road, Arbëri Road, Tirana Ring Road, Kardhiq-Saranda, Korçë - Erseke) issued a press statement about the situation today.
"The collapse of the road is not a failure, but a testament to our unceasing commitment to work eternally on the construction sites."
The residents of the areas around the construction site have not only gotten used to the situation, but have started to enjoy the new reality, because now the bulldozers, excavators and workers themselves are part of the natural landscape. Often times even becoming a tourist attraction where many foreign agencies are offering a "Destroyed roads" tourism package."
"We have been coming often for 15 years with my wife, we enjoy it a lot. This year we also took the son because he too grew up with the pictures we took years ago. He touched and enjoyed this experience himself," said a tourist who is passionate about abandoned roads.
Meanwhile, the locals are equally satisfied.
"It's like having the Great Wall of China in front of you, but better because it never ends," said one retiree, taking a selfie in a pit overlooking Gravel Mountain.
Let's not forget that "Rome was not built in a day" - said an engineer supervising the works.
In an effort to get the best out of the perennial jobs, the Ministry of Tourism with an unsolicited offer has launched the campaign with the slogan, "Come for the Beaches, stay for the construction sites." Visitors will be offered free phosphorescent helmets and vests and for a symbolic payment of 1 euro they will be able to take tours of the many construction sites from the North to the South of the country.
As for the road's future, officials remain optimistic.
"At our current pace, we are confident that the road will be completed at the same time as the first human colony arrives on Mars," said a spokesman for the Ministry of Eternal Affairs.
Despite the criticisms that we often encounter, it seems that every bad has a good since the tourism package of roads left on roads will be the surprise of every season of 2024.
And of course, there remains a big dilemma of where should be the starting point of this tour.
