The clarity of Western punishment towards Kosovo because of its elected prime minister is coming for a reason. They have nothing to talk about because they have no one to talk to.
Albin Kurti yesterday did not receive Rama in his two-day visit to Pristina, after the latter's visit as part of a tour in the Balkans, which aims to once again return the Berlin Process as a regional cooperation instrument. After the friction between Berisha and Rugova almost 3 decades ago, this is the lowest point of relations between the leaders of the two Albanian nation-forming states. It is not even a low point, but even worse a "disaster" as they often like to say in Pristina.
More or less like Vucic who refused to meet Kurti in Brussels two weeks ago. And the comparison is heavy in itself. And it doesn't matter if Kurti does this extreme act as an outstanding patriot or as a saboteur of Kosovo's interest in moving towards mutual recognition with Serbia. The important thing is that this act is serious, unprecedented and harmful. Not only because the taste he leaves in the Balkans and beyond is bad, but above all because whether someone likes Rama or not, he is the Prime Minister of the motherland. The government of Tirana cannot be chosen by Kurti, nor can the government of Pristina be determined by Rama's tastes.
They are forced to meet and point. Not for myself, but for Kosovo. With an election that the official PD or that of Reestablishment recognizes or not, Rama is the leader of the Albanian government. The most natural lawyer of the interest of Kosovo, which today is led by Rama, while yesterday by Berisha or Majko. And as a reminder, although Thaci and Berisha never had sympathy for each other since the liberation war of 1998-1999, both regularly sat in meetings for the benefit of Albanians on both sides of the border. As Prime Minister of Albania and President of Kosovo. That's how it was, that's not how it is and that's how it will be again after some time.
But the worst news that Kurt's behavior has produced is the suspension by the EU of some programs financed by it and the termination by Germany of some economic and financial programs. The measures that can be taken against Serbia, from its side, are not helping the dialogue, on the contrary. But if Serbia is for Westerners the historical "black sheep" in the Balkans due to its nationalism and traditional ties with Russia, it is paradoxical to see Kosovo taking the title of "trouble maker" from the Serbs!
After more than 1 month of completely artificial tensions in the north of Kosovo, the West and the Albanian Prime Minister have tried all the ways to seat Kurti and Vučić at the negotiating table, which they overturned, even after they agreed in principle in Ohrid, for a path that led to the mutual recognition agreement.
Either in multilateral or bilateral formats. But enough is enough! The time for carrots is over now the sticks are crunching. Shkopinj who hit Kurti on the back, but who will give the pain to Kosovo whether it supports Kurti or not. And this highlights the crux of the matter: Kurti bears no responsibility except to sovereignists who do not even know who they want to be independent from. From Serbia or from those who pushed Serbia out of Kosovo. A conglomeration of supporters tired of the corruption of the transition, others of the "moral depravity of the West", and some others who think that Enver Hoxha really defeated the Warsaw Treaty and NATO at the same time, but in the end it is not known how many people They rode on top of his torso, stomping on it, and more, discharging his kidneys on February 21, 1991.
The Jews have an expression that is more eloquent than any diplomatic paradigm. When they sit down to do business with someone, they ask: "does he have your father's money or yours"? If the answer is "father's", they are taken from the table and stop the conversation. Kurti is exactly "father's son who will do business with his own money", he does not feel sorry for something that he has not achieved by himself. He is sitting at the negotiation table with the KLA war and NATO bombs as his capital, while he himself was reading newspapers in prison in Serbia. Therefore, the perspective is bleak as long as the first of Kosovo is gambling with money that is neither his, nor Kosovo's, nor the liberation war. Will Kosovo overcome Kurti? This is in the hands of the rivals of Vetëvendosja and the people of Kosovo. Until then, "bye, bye Albin"!
