The US election is in its final hours and the whole world is waiting for the winner. The world is divided mainly not about Kamala and Trump, but about the continuity of the typical American establishment and about the danger of its relativization.
Trump's second victory reignites the debate over whether America will become more or less important to the world.
Those who are against him, think that he will lose to the US the role it has in the world as a guarantor of freedom and democracy, being oriented towards bilateral negotiations and bargains that deviate from American principles and standards of freedom and democracy.
Those who believe in Trump hope precisely to get rid of the nuisance of these principles, to have the freedom to do more business and to avoid conflicts in the world by removing the barrier of principles and basing first of all on bargaining between the parties.
This is the simple explanation for the world. In Albania, this explanation is inverted and ridiculous.
The opposition loves Trump because the opposition leadership is almost sanctioned by the US because of the Berisha family and its allies, who are also terrorized by the Justice Reform that bears the stamp and supervision of the US. The hope is that President Trump's model will undo these rules and lift the sanctions for corruption and undermining democracy for Sali Berisha.
On the other hand, Edi Rama's leadership is very much identified with the current US establishment and the opposition mistakenly attributes this to the support of the Soros Foundation.
The comic side of these elections will be that if Trump wins, Edi Rama's leadership may be more peaceful under his power for the same reasons that the opposition dreams of. If they really think that Trump will undo the Justice Reform and get rid of SPAK from Albanian politics, I don't know what prevents Edi Rama from getting the fifth mandate in Albania after the fourth.
If Kamala wins, of course the government has the correct relations with the US, but the system works against it in the longer term, as it will have to face the long-term problems of prolonged power, by a justice that is protected by the US.
However, the opposition should enjoy themselves until May, while the government has both scenarios ready for any winner, but the truth is that the government is not disappointed by anything from these elections. Trump may disappoint the opposition. Like last time.
