17 tons of drugs from Brazil to Europe, the Albanian "boss" of cocaine

Interpol has arrested the Albanian citizen Armando Pacani, who was being investigated in Brazil for running a Brazilian criminal organization that sent cocaine to Europe.

On the Interpol red list, Armando Pacani has been identified by investigators as the leader of a Brazilian group that sent drugs through the African route.

Pacani was arrested on the 29th in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Brazil has 30 days to send the official extradition request.

According to a complaint by the Federal Public Ministry, Pacani was the recipient of a shipment of 17 tons of pure cocaine that the criminal group based in the ports in the south of the country sent to Europe over a period of two years. The goods are valued at 3.8 billion dollars.

According to the MPF, the group has sent at least 13 loads of cocaine from Andean countries, from the ports of Rio Grande, in Rio Grande do Sul and Itajaí, in Santa Catarina.

Drugs were hidden in containers with legal cargo, without the knowledge of the owners of the goods, or left on fishing vessels.

One of the shipments was seized by the French navy near Sierra Leone in November 2022. The fishing boat was carrying 4.6 tons of cocaine in about a hundred suitcases, almost R$800 million. The operation was a joint effort between the PF, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the European Union Agency for Police Cooperation (Europol) and French authorities.

The investigation revealed that a Paraguayan national was supplying cargoes of cocaine purchased in Bolivia to the owners of maritime logistics companies in southern Brazil, narco-entrepreneurs, who were shipping them to Europe.

The drug entered the national territory through the border with Paraguay, in the region of Pedro Juan Caballero and Ponta Porã, crossed several states by truck, until it reached the south, from there it was sent to European buyers, especially from the Balkans and the Iberian Peninsula.

The member of the Albanian mafia, Pacani was appointed by the MPF as responsible for monitoring the "logistics of the international drug traffic, from the supply to the Andean countries, through storage and work at the port, maritime transport, until receiving in Europe".

He had been on the run since the Federal Police launched Operation Hinterland in March last year.

Known by the code names Albanês, Forbes and Globe, Pacani is accused of the crimes of drug trafficking, money laundering and criminal organization./ Taken from "O globo"
