The files of unsolved murders in Tropoja after 1997 still remain a "hot potato" in the hands of the police and the prosecution. SPAK has an open investigation with the accuser and main witness Aishe Hajklajn, the sister of the brothers from the village of Kirnaje, while the interior minister Taulant Balla, during his first visit to Tropoja on Saturday, December 16, returned attention to the unsolved murders, asking their investigation and identification of the perpetrators.
The riots of 1997 with the arming of the population, the war in Kosovo, political clashes and the murder of Azem Hajdar, produced a chain of serious criminal events that left behind many victims, while the perpetrators remained undiscovered.
Sources for "Report TV" said that most of the murders without a perpetrator, which are related to Tropoja, are archived in the local police there and in Kukës, with tasks left "for discovering the perpetrator". The long time that has passed since the event, the departure of witnesses, the lack or damage of evidence, according to sources, have been the main obstacles.
After the request of the Minister of the Interior to the police of Tropoja, where the director of the district Artan Bajraktari was also present, the police will create special groups with the aim of reopening the investigations.
The sources said that dozens of criminal files, for murders with weapons, injuries, sniper executions, ambushes with explosives, etc., often with more than one victim, will be re-examined. In the same way, the scientific police will also be engaged in carrying out new expertise and examinations that can help the reopening of investigations, especially now that they have the most advanced and up-to-date equipment in their hands.
The new information and evidence will be presented to the prosecution for evaluation in order to resume criminal proceedings and carry out other additional actions that may lead to the identification of the perpetrators.
Meanwhile, for the series of gun murders, sniper attacks and more explosive ambushes against members of the Haklaj tribe and their close persons or associates, the investigation is open by the Special Prosecutor's Office.
