The court of Elbasan has decided the measure "arrest in prison" for 11 of the arrested officials and for the author Sokol Mjacaj. Meanwhile, only one prison official was left with the measure of 'obligation to appear', because he had a paralyzed child.

From 10:00, under strict security measures, Sokol Mjacaj, the author of the murder of Arben Lleshi, appeared today before the Elbasan Court, together with 12 officials of Peqin prison and those arrested after the murder in the cell of Arben Lleshi on December 15 2023.

The latter are accused of having violated the security rules in the prison, since they did not carry out checks on the convict Mjacaj, who had been moving for at least 20 days with a weapon inside the prison.

The session lasted for hours, as the defense side requested that the file be divided according to the functions that the officials had in the prison. According to its claims, the defense has emphasized that the file cannot be shared, since some officials serve in other sectors, not where the event took place.

Among other things, they added that the director of the prison has been sending letters for a long time about the non-functioning of the monitoring system.

Peqin Prison had been converted into a hotel. There were many deficiencies in the operation", they stated.

The approved measures, prison terms, are for: Sokol Mjacaj, Kamber Hoxha, Qani Muça, Nikolin Gjonpali, Arben Dulellari, Ilir Balla, Florenc Mile, Fatos Pire, Genci Muça, Klement Haka, Erjon Çilaj, Indrit Dubali.

Meanwhile, we remember that in the testimony given before the investigators, Mjacaj stated that he committed the murder after a banal quarrel with Arben Lleshi and after learning from the other prisoners that he would be isolated in the cells of 41-bis, he went to kill in the cell where he was staying. The 28-year-old was also asked about the order he allegedly received from abroad.

He maintained the same position, saying that the murder happened after a fight he had with the victim. The investigators have doubts that Mjacaj was ordered by other people to kill Lleshi, and for this reason they also carried out checks in Mjacaj's apartment in Dukagjin, but also in his brother's.

Also, how the machine gun was smuggled into the prison remains a mystery, however, suspicions are that it was done via food parcels while the scanners were down. The control at the entrance to the prison during this time was done manually by the employees, while the scanners were put into operation only a few days ago, after Sokol Mjacaj managed to get hold of the weapon he used in the crime./Pamphlet
