A member of a criminal group, the 33-year-old Albanian in Britain is sentenced

A member of an Albanian organized crime group has been jailed for the second time in Britain for Class A drug trafficking.

Bujar Cozminca, 33, trafficked 100 kilograms of cocaine, which was worth £3.5m when bought and was expected to sell for £8m.

Cozminca was arrested in May 2021, where £300,000 in cash was found at two properties, in Islington and Wembley, which he used for drug deals.

Investigating agents also uncovered several records showing drug deals totaling nearly £2 million. Cozminca admitted his involvement in cocaine trafficking and money laundering. Snaresbrook Crown Court then sentenced him on Friday (June 28, 2024) to 12 years in prison.

British media write that his name was already known to law enforcement officers in the United Kingdom. In 2012, he was sentenced to 21 months in prison for drug trafficking and deported to Albania, but then illegally re-entered the UK.

In 2020, investigators secured his communications on the encrypted EncroChat app, which revealed that Cozminca was trafficking many kilograms of cocaine across the UK and laundering hundreds of thousands of pounds of criminal money a week.

The organized crime group he was part of had extensive international connections and Cozminca was able to operate throughout the country's Covid-19 lockdown and beyond.

Officers in Britain are also continuing to investigate other members of the same gang. Andrew Tickner, OCP senior investigating officer, said: Cozminca is a member of an Albanian organized crime group that believed it could operate with impunity. Thanks to the concerted efforts and skillful work of officers from the NCA and the Metropolitan Police Service, the substantial evidence obtained by EncroChat made clear the extent of his criminality, leaving him with no choice but to plead guilty. We are determined to pursue individuals like Cozminca who feel they are above the law, and we will continue to work with our partners to bring them to justice.”
