Railway accident

The accident happened south of Bedford, where an East Midlands Railway train hit the rear of another train stopped at a red light. Emergency services, including air ambulances, responded to the scene.

Two East Midlands Railway passenger trains collided near Bedford in England during the afternoon rush hour, leaving passengers injured and causing a major emergency operation.

According to reports in The Sun, the accident happened at around 5:15pm near the Elstow Interchange, approximately three kilometres south of Bedford town centre.

Footage from the scene shows significant damage to the train carriages, with some passengers evacuated by jumping onto the tracks. Some carriages appear to have been deformed by the force of the collision.

Witnesses said one of the trains had stopped on the line before being hit from behind by the other train. Passengers reported that there was no prior warning of the collision and that they did not hear any sirens or emergency alarms.

Several people suffered facial and head injuries. Passengers quoted by British media described scenes of panic, with people falling to the floor and injured people calling for help. Authorities have not yet released the exact number of injured or their condition.
