A serious confession has come to light in the courtroom for the murder of 22-year-old Albanian Ilaria Sula, where the defendant, 24-year-old Mark Samson, admitted for the first time that he had punched her before killing her.
After several hours of questioning, he changed his previous version, admitting to physical violence against his ex-girlfriend. "I punched her in the face, I don't know how many times. She screamed a little," he declared.
The young man initially tried to deflect responsibility, but then admitted that he had acted under the influence of accumulated anger. "I had a lot of anger built up, I don't know what happened to me," he said.
According to the testimony, the conflict began after the discovery of the girl's conversations with other people, while the relationship between them had deteriorated for a long time. He also admitted that he had repeatedly lied about his personal and academic life, which had led to the breakdown of the relationship.
"It's true, I told her a lot of lies. It wasn't true that I was getting two degrees and that I didn't even have a GPA of 27. She found out. She told me that I had always told her lies and gave me back the ring and the engagement letter," the author said.
He admitted that after this the relationship changed: " From that moment on, everything was different. She wanted more freedom, to breathe. She told me she was registered on Tinder."
In the courtroom, the prosecution also presented photos of the victim's damaged face, while moments of the testimony proved unbearable for the family. The 22-year-old's father left the courtroom in shock, followed by his mother.
The defendant admitted that he had secretly accessed the girl's personal accounts and had previously expressed threatening behavior towards her.
"I wanted him to tell me the truth. I told a friend: I'll drown him in an aquarium if he doesn't tell me," he said, revealing the tension that had preceded the event.
Mark Samson stated that he had had an intimate relationship with her on March 25, but this was questioned by the prosecutor, as they had separated shortly before and he had decided to sleep on the couch while she had gone to bed.
He also said that he had brought her breakfast in bed that morning, sending her a tray with a knife, mortadella and coffee. But no trace of the mortadella was found, nor of the tray, and according to friends, Ilaria did not eat anything in the morning. The presence of the knife is certain, as it turns out to be the murder weapon.
Some elements of the incident still remain unclear and are being investigated by the prosecution, including details about the last moments before the crime and the exact circumstances of the murder./ Corriere della Sera
