A fierce conflict over a parking space has turned into a real tragedy on the outskirts of Brussels.
Belgian media reports that an Albanian immigrant, father of three children, was shot dead by a person with whom he was having a heated argument.
The name of the victim has not yet been published by the authorities, nor the dynamics of the event or if there were other motives for the event.
The event happened around 20:00 on Sunday evening (August 25), on the street "Blijde Inkomststraat", in Machelen, a suburban municipality of Brussels. The author also shot the victim's cousin, 19 years old, who was injured.
"The 19-year-old cousin of the victim was injured and is currently in a stable condition, but his life is still in danger. The armed perpetrator is known to have threatened the victim's wife and a neighbor across the street and also shot at the 15-year-old son of the victim. The woman, the neighbor and the son were unharmed," the Halle-Vilvoorde public prosecutor's office said on Monday morning.
The Belgian police identified the suspected perpetrator as a resident of the area, who was a neighbor of the Albanian. After the crime, he was arrested and is being investigated.
The two people were in conflict for a long time, over a parking space, according to preliminary testimonies of local residents and acquaintances of the victim and the perpetrator.
The police are still investigating and the identities and dynamics of the event are expected to be revealed.
