The Special Court of First Instance has upheld the prison sentence for drug 'baron' Dritan Rexhepi.
It is known that Rexhepi has declared that he will participate in every court session and through lawyer Joana Qeleshi has requested his release from the cell, claiming that he is being held in custody without any evidence. Meanwhile, the continuation of the substantive process has been postponed until January 24.
Rexhepi is accused of the kidnapping and disappearance of Jan Prenga, while several others are being tried for the same case, including Aldo Majnishta, Artan Doçaj, Gentian Funiq, Geraldo Martini, Korado Keshtenjë, and Martin Bletë. Earlier, Festim Bixhdili, the gardener of the "Golden" complex, was sentenced to life for the murder of Jan Prenga, while his case was returned for retrial in the Special Appeal by the Supreme Court.
Also, Altin Hajri is being tried separately for the same incident.
Rexhepi is one of the most wanted persons by the Albanian judiciary due to extensive criminal activity. He has a long history with Albanian justice. In 1998, he was sentenced to 25 years in prison for killing two policemen in Fushë-Kruje. He is also known for spectacular escapes from prisons, including an escape from Pavia prison in Italy in 2008 and another from Belgium. In 2013, he used a forged passport to leave Albania and has not returned since.
