The Institute of Forensic Medicine reacted after the publication of the news that the prosecution had requested foreign experts to determine the causes of death of 3-year-old Brian Spahiu in the private clinic of doctor Roland Xhaxho.
In a response, this Institute emphasizes that at the end of the examination of the obtained data, forensic doctors have compiled the cause and the scientific mechanism of death.

After the autopsy, forensic doctors have performed the standard procedures for determining the cause and mechanism of death of the child, who was treated for dental treatment at the private clinic of doctor Roland Xhaxho.
As the case of the child's death was specific, in addition to the two doctors who performed the autopsy, two other IML doctors, who are specialists in pathological anatomy, participated in determining the cause and mechanism of death. At the end of the review of the obtained data, forensic doctors have compiled the cause and the scientific mechanism of death.
It is worth clarifying that, over the years, the IML has always contributed to all the requests of the Prosecutor's Office and the Court.
Every year IML responds to the Prosecutor's Office with about 16,000 medical-legal, toxicological-legal and psychiatric-legal expert reports, in function of the requests of the Prosecutor's Office and Courts throughout the country.
Forensics are specialized and assisted by international partners. Any allusion to incompetence is not only an attempt to undo the work of this institution, but also a serious insult to medical science and the great army of our doctors, who with their work and scientific thinking enjoy the respect of their European colleagues. and beyond.
Legal doctors respond to the criteria of the Code of Criminal Procedure for the appointment and performance of the duty and take the oath according to the procedural law for each act of expertise. In any case of allusion to a conflict of interest, the Criminal Procedural Law provides for the waiver of the expert and the replacement of the expert. Hoping that the concrete decision-making will not be a means to undo the legal and scientific conclusion reached in the expert act, we will continue our work in order to deliver justice.
On the other hand, we oppose any act and decision-making that may lead to the pressure of forensic doctors not to perform their duty!
