A 36-year-old Albanian, a fugitive with many criminal convictions, was stranded at the border of Brenner due to bad weather and tried to return to Italy using false documents.
The person with the initials MR, who had 1.5 years of imprisonment left to serve, was identified by the State Police officers during the return control, as part of activities to fight illegal immigration and drug trafficking. The suspect was traveling on board an international train coming from Munich and heading to Bologna.
His nervous and impatient behavior attracted the attention of the officers, who decided to force him off the train for further checks at the offices of the Commissioner of Public Safety in Brenner. When asked to identify himself, he produced a Romanian identity document, declaring himself a 38-year-old citizen with no criminal record.
A deeper analysis of the document revealed obvious anomalies, such as the absence of security watermarks and personal data not recorded on the electronic chip.
Thanks to the comparison of fingerprints, the agents discovered the true identity of the subject: MR, the 36-year-old Albanian, without fixed residence and irregular in Italian territory.
There was a search warrant for him, as he will serve the sentence given last year, of which he has 18 months left to serve, for drug trafficking and extortion, in Lazio and Umbria. The Spoleto court left him in custody.
