During the years 2021-2022, this face change trend seemed to fade as the most "fashionable" were the coronavirus masks. The most common way is to become one with the crowd, so during the pandemic, many criminal events were completed by people wearing coronavirus masks.
After all, when 99% of citizens wear such, it was the easiest way to camouflage.
- Ardian Nikulaj was executed at noon on April 19, 2023, as soon as he had entered and sat at a table in the bar owned by him on the first line of the Shengjin beach. Nikulaj, businessman in Lezhë, former candidate for deputy in the 2021 elections and candidate for the Municipal Council in the elections of May 14 of this year was killed with a pistol around 13:30 on April 19.
The perpetrator wears a mask, spacesuit, phosphorescent vest and camouflaged with thick clothing, after committing the murder with a pistol at a very close distance and alone quietly left the scene on a motorcycle. The victim was consuming his last coffee in his bar in Shengjin, when the perpetrator shot him seven times with a pistol in the head and other parts of the body.
Nikulaj was a candidate for deputy under the banner of the Social Democratic Party in the 2021 elections. While in the elections expected to be held on May 14, he was a candidate for the Municipal Council. The victim was previously arrested for possession of weapons without a permit and smuggling and forgery.
Many crimes
Murder, hostage-taking, robbery and a lot of violence are the terms that are spoken and shock the public opinion more. During the year 2022, 318 crimes against life committed intentionally were committed, where the highest number of 222 cases are those of threats. Meanwhile, there was an increase in denunciations and investigations for fines and illegal deprivation of liberty in 116 cases, and in 41 cases of hostage taking.
"The coefficient of criminality for registered criminal proceedings, per 100,000 inhabitants in 2023 is 872, the lowest percentage of criminality per 100,000 inhabitants is in Dibër district, while the highest percentage is in Vlorë district", said Chief Prosecutor Olsian Çela.
Under these conditions, a question arises: How is it possible for such a small country to have higher crime rates?
According to psychologists, it has to do with several factors affecting family and society. According to psychologist Eleni Topi: "For an individual to have a tendency to commit a crime so that they can use silicone masks, but there is also the influence from society which is very big on young people or children who if a relative theirs or has used it as a result of social influence he may become part of that group that uses such forms and as a result be influenced by society so that in the future he becomes part of criminal groups. Parents should take care of their children who have not yet reached the working age to check the money they are given without exceeding and exaggerating but only enough to meet the needs like their peers so that they do not exceed in the forms of purchasing masks or other necessary equipment that serve them to commit criminal offenses".
While sociologists say that one of the reasons for high crime is corruption, but poverty also affects it. Sociologist Gëzim Tushi says for "Vetting" that "crime and criminality in today's Albanian society has become a great social wound, it has become an extremely widespread tumor, very wide and with high intensity. I have the impression that the strategies of crime, the methods of crime in Albania are many steps ahead of the institutions of prevention and punishment. This is unfortunately creating an adoptive social climate and that is a huge concern."
While in the last 4 years in Albania, 192 murders have been registered, while 62 mafia crimes continue to remain unsolved. Sniper executions, family crimes, murder of women, revenge or laundering drug accounts, are just some of the categories of murders in Albania.
Some of the events have been solved, but the murders without a perpetrator continue to be those of clashes between gangs, for which the police have not been able to place handcuffs. Even when action was taken against them, the suspects were released due to lack of evidence./ Vetting
