A 48-year-old man was arrested by Korça police on the "Pogradec - Qafë Thanë" road axis, transporting cigarette cartons without fiscal stamps in a vehicle.
According to the police, the 48-year-old is suspected of having smuggled the 495 crates from Greece and brought them into Albania without completing customs clearance procedures.

"The Economic and Financial Crimes Investigation Sector is finalizing the police operation "Smoking Kills", to crack down on a case of smuggling of goods for which excise duty is paid.
The 48-year-old was arrested after being caught red-handed on the "Pogradec - Qafë Thanë" road axis, transporting 495 cartons of cigarettes without fiscal stamps, which he is suspected of having smuggled from Greece.

Specialists of the Economic and Financial Crimes Investigation Section, in continuation of their work to prevent, identify and crack down on criminal activities in the field of goods smuggling, based on information provided by police intelligence, have organized the police operation codenamed "Smoking Kills", to crack down on a case in this field.
During the operation, on the "Pogradec - Qafë Thanë" road axis, the Police services stopped the vehicle driven by citizen DH. During the search, 495 crates of cigarette packages were found in this vehicle, which are suspected of having been imported into Albania without completing customs clearance procedures.
Following the actions in this case, citizen DH, 48 years old, resident of Tirana, was arrested in flagrante delicto for the criminal offenses of "Smuggling of goods for which excise duty is paid or with full or partial suspension of customs or excise duties" and "Trading and transporting contraband goods".
"The procedural materials were passed to the Prosecutor's Office at the First Instance Court of General Jurisdiction in Korça, for further action ," the police announced.
