
The partner of Gjeorgjia Murat, the pregnant Albanian who was stabbed to death by the 39-year-old man last January, has been sentenced to life imprisonment.
According to the Greek media, the Court of Edessa has sentenced the author's friend to 15 years in prison, after he helped the latter commit the murder and disappear the dead body of Georgia, which was found in a forest area near Monopigados, butchered with a knife .
The two defendants in the murder of Georgia, who was also the mother of a minor girl, her 39-year-old partner and his 34-year-old friend, were unanimously found guilty on charges of manslaughter, termination of pregnancy and keeping and use of weapons without permission.
No extenuating circumstances were identified for the two persons and they will be returned to the prisons where they were already.
According to the data of the forensic medicine, the unfortunate woman, who was in the 7th week of pregnancy, received three fatal knife wounds in the cervical area. The murder was committed on New Year's Day, in the 39-year-old's apartment, in Kalamaria, and the perpetrators' motive seems to have been robbery.
Claims of the parties
In the court session, the 39-year-old said that he had nothing to do with the charges against him, while his friend stated that he did not commit the murder. The victim's brother also testified in the trial, who was surrounded by police officers to avoid any incident with the two defendants sitting in the dock.
The 41-year-old's brother said he had only seen her partner 5 times and told his sister he didn't like her as a person. Furthermore, he testified that over time his sister seemed lost and disturbed.
The victim's brother added that he knew the 41-year-old was pregnant and thought she was not happy.
While the sister of the suspected author said that she learned about the case of Georgia's disappearance from television and was impressed by the way her brother spoke, as according to her it seemed that the 39-year-old was hiding something.
The witness testified that if she had known the victim, she would have warned her to stay away from her brother as she knew his character. She described him as hot-tempered and manipulative, while adding that the 39-year-old had raped her.
"He was violent, he beat me so badly that I ended up in the hospital. He had aggressive behavior towards the second woman as well", she testified.
"The motivation was not money. I want to know why they killed Georgia," said the 39-year-old's sister.
