Over 100 million euros are suspected of being extorted from citizens of European Union countries through fraud schemes set up by call centers investigated in Tirana in the last three months.
There are 8 operations against this phenomenon, with over 30 people arrested and more than 90 prosecuted. Six of the operations were finalized by the Tirana Police, while the other two were conducted by SPAK, Eurojust and Europol.
According to the authorities, through these call centers, they deceived citizens of European Union countries, convincing them to invest or transfer sums of money in false schemes, with serious financial consequences for the victims.
During the checks, significant amounts of money, over 300 computer units and mobile phones were seized, which were suspected of being used for criminal activity.
The figures also show the intensification of the impact of this phenomenon. In the period April-May-June and the first two weeks of July 2026 alone, 8 call centers were hit, the same number as were hit during the entire year 2025. Meanwhile, in the first three months of 2026, January, February and March, no operations against this phenomenon were recorded.
The investigative files state that the scheme operated with clear division of duties, hierarchical control and a structure similar to that of a legitimate business, enabling large-scale cross-border fraud. / A2 Television
