The trial against Fatmir Mediu for the murders in Gërdec was postponed again. This is after Mediu failed to appear for the umpteenth time, saying that he is in America. Every time Mediu is supposed to appear in court, he says that he has been invited to the US for important meetings.
This time too, Mediu said through his lawyer that he had an invitation to the US Congress from March 24 to April 1.
Prosecutor Klodian Braho called Fatmir Mediu's absence unjustified and requested that the hearing continue in the presence of his legal counsel, which was opposed by the latter. Judge Irena Gjoka decided to postpone the hearing, drawing Mediu's attention to the fact that absences of this nature will no longer be considered in future hearings.
Zamira Durda was also present at the hearing, and she said that she has been waiting for justice for 17 years for her minor son, who was killed in Gërdec.
It remains to be seen whether Mediu, whenever he has to appear in court, will be summoned alone or with Eli Fara. Fatmir Mediu and Eli Fara have made a historic contribution to the fight against global warming.
