"You ruined my life", new details emerge from the triple murder of

New details have emerged from a double murder and suicide in the Asti area of Italy, where Astrit Koni beat his ex-wife Drita Meçollari and her new partner Bardhok Gega to death, then killed himself.

It all stemmed from the blind jealousy of her husband, who couldn't accept that she had started a new life after their relationship ended.

The 59-year-old Albanian, Astrit Koni, killed his ex-wife, Drita Meçollari, 55, and her partner, Bardhok Gega, 57 (the latter a resident of Milan), both fellow Albanians, before committing suicide by jumping from the tower of the Cossombrato Castle, in the Asti area, where he had lived for years and was well-known.

Initially, in the early hours of yesterday afternoon, police discovered the body of Kon, known in the village as Arturo. He was found at the foot of the castle where he worked as a gardener and had the keys.

On Saturday lunchtime, the woman's brother, who had come out worried because she had not answered the phone for more than 24 hours, found the bodies of the two victims of the 59-year-old's blind rage in a ditch at the entrance to the village, a short distance from each other, near a field with several beehives that the couple tended, about two kilometres from the village.

According to initial reports, the act was attributed to the man's jealousy, as he was unable to accept the end of his marriage and his ex-wife's new relationship.

A grappling hook, the agricultural tool used to beat them to death, was found near the couple's bodies.

The investigation is being coordinated by prosecutor Alessandro Giai of the Asti prosecutor's office, who has ordered an autopsy of all the bodies and an expertise of the weapon used in the double murder.

During their search, police found a note written by Koni and addressed to his ex-wife, which could be a key clue to solving the case: "You ruined my life for the last 15 years, but now it's over," it reads.

Drita had moved to Milan, but had returned with her partner to take care of the bees.

Neighbors reported that Koni and Meçollari, who had worked as caretakers for a long time, had separated last January after a long period of crisis. Koni had moved to Milan with her new partner, Gega, but the two periodically returned to Cossombrato to take care of her beehives, her great passion, and to produce honey.

Koni and Meçollari had two daughters, the eldest lives in Dubai with her partner and their daughter and is returning to Italy for the funeral.

The youngest daughter, who lives in Turin, rushed to the city on Friday after her father's suicide to identify the body. It was only after arriving there the next day that she learned that her mother had been murdered.
