A 53-year-old Albanian man has been arrested by Italian police after he kept his ex-wife and their two minor children, aged 7 and 11, isolated at home, and physically abused them. The arrest was made as part of an investigation coordinated by the Perugia Prosecutor's Office.
The 53-year-old, residing in Gubbio, was arrested red-handed and is suspected of kidnapping his 42-year-old ex-wife, a resident of Albania, and their two children, who live with their mother.
He was caught driving a car with his ex-wife and two children in the back seat – all three in a state of panic, according to the police report. The wife and one of the children immediately called for help.
Police officers found that the man had taken their passports and cell phone, preventing them from leaving or seeking help.
Subsequent investigations revealed that the man had deceived his ex-wife into coming to Italy with the minor children. They had arrived on July 30 by plane, but the man then forcibly detained them, using threats and physical violence. He is also charged with illegal possession of a knife.
At the end of the intervention, the carabinieri found a protected structure where the woman and two children found shelter, while the 53-year-old was taken to the Perugia prison, according to the order of the prosecutor in the case.
