25-year-old Mërgim Bruti has been arrested by the Border Police in Durrës after being declared an international wanted person.
He is accused of the criminal offenses of "Theft" and "Violation of traffic rules".
The 25-year-old was sentenced to 27 months in prison and is awaiting extradition to Switzerland. The young man was caught trying to leave Albania and was about to travel to Italy.
"A 25-year-old man, who was declared an international wanted person, was captured by the Border Police and arrested with the aim of extradition to Switzerland.
The Border Police Services at the Port of Durres, based on information provided by police intelligence that an internationally wanted citizen would travel to Italy, have intensified controls to capture him.
As a result, a 25-year-old UK citizen, residing in Italy, was caught attempting to leave Albania and arrested for extradition.
This citizen was declared internationally wanted by Interpol Bern, after the Court of Lucerne, Switzerland, with the decision dated 08.01.2025, sentenced him to 27 months in prison, for the criminal offenses of "Theft" and "Violation of traffic rules".
"Interpol Tirana continues to cooperate with its counterparts in Switzerland to extradite this citizen," the police announced.
