The Greek police's "ghost" bandit returned to the spotlight after an incident in Mikrolimano. Shots, guns, grenades and a dark past.
High-risk scenes unfolded in the early hours of the morning in Mikrolimano, when officers from the DAOE Extortion Department stopped a suspicious person near a bar in the area and were confronted with one of the most dangerous criminals of the last decade.
According to information, this is about the infamous "Titi", the Albanian who had a leading role in a criminal organization and who also became known for his spectacular escape from the Directorate of Transfers in June 2019.
42-year-old Alessio Xhelo from Fier is known in Greece by the nickname "Titi" and previously by the identity Astrit Hasani.
During the search, the Albanian pulled out a gun on the police, causing an alarm and an exchange of gunfire. The "notorious" fugitive was wounded in the ear and transported to the "Attikon" hospital.
He is intubated in the intensive care unit in critical condition. Neurosurgeons removed a bullet from his head during an operation. When he arrived at the hospital, he was conscious, talking, and told the police his name.
According to sources, although injured, during the ambulance transport to the hospital he was irritated and severely insulted the police officers.
Three firearms were found in his possession, while a bag containing six hand grenades was discovered a few meters away. A TEEM unit arrived at the scene, while the area was isolated for security reasons.
The man the Hellenic Police considered extremely dangerous
The name of Astrit Hasani, known as "Titi", is associated with armed robberies, clashes with the police and violent criminal events. In the Greek police files he was described as the leader of a group that operated with a military organization and heavy weapons.
Authorities considered him particularly dangerous, as his group did not hesitate to open fire or throw grenades at police to ensure their escape. According to Greek police, he played a key role in organizing attacks, securing weapons and recruiting new members.
His criminal past is considered very serious. "Titi" was accused of a murder in Kaisariani, dozens of armed robberies in homes and businesses, as well as a series of armed clashes with the police.
In one of the most notorious incidents, in 2012, officers from the Neos Kosmos Police Station confronted him and his associates just minutes after a robbery. According to authorities, they shot at officers and threw grenades to help them escape. They were also found to be carrying Kalashnikovs hidden in guitar cases to evade arrest.
The "cinematic" escape by Petrou Ralli
“Titi’s” name became known throughout Greece in June 2019, when he escaped along with three other prisoners from the cells of the Transfer Directorate in Petrou Ralli, an event that exposed major security gaps.
The escape was organized in cold blood. One of the prisoners pretended to have a health problem and asked for medicine from personal belongings stored outside the cell. The policeman believed him and accompanied him, temporarily leaving the cell door open.
A few minutes later, the prisoners attacked the police with an improvised knife, took their service weapons and handcuffed the guards. They then went down to the basement of the building, got into a police car and took a young police officer hostage, trying to leave through the main gate. In the end, they abandoned the vehicle and disappeared on foot, while the police had declared a national alert.
A massive operation was organized to capture them with the participation of EKAM, OPKE, DI.AS., helicopters and specially trained dogs. Two of the escapees were arrested within a few hours, but "Titi" managed to disappear. The Greek authorities believed that he had crossed into Albania, where according to information he had been arrested, but a short time later it is suspected that he had escaped from there as well./ Adapted "Pamfleti" from "tovima.gr".
