The Director General of the State Police, Skënder Hita, has reacted from the Trauma Hospital after the serious incident that occurred in Lozhan, Maliqi, where an officer of the "Eagle" force lost his life and another was seriously injured during an operation to capture a wanted person.
In a statement to the media, Hita described the event as a great loss for the State Police, expressing his sorrow for the officer who fell in the line of duty.
"We lost a wonderful colleague, a father, a dedicated family member and the State Police lost its servant, its employee in the service of citizens. Another police officer is seriously injured and is receiving medical attention. The wanted person who was surrounded for his neutralization and capture was also injured and is in the Korça hospital. It is truly an event where I would not want to be in front of you," Hita declared.
The Police Chief announced that investigations to fully elucidate the incident have been launched immediately by the Korça Prosecutor's Office, while warning that more details will be provided on the circumstances and dynamics of the armed clash.
"Investigations have begun at the Korça Prosecutor's Office. After this moment, I will leave for Korça and you will have a more extensive announcement about the entire dynamics of the event," he said.
The incident occurred during a police operation in the Lozhani area, where officer Enea Mekolli was killed, while his colleague Edison Adri was seriously injured. During the exchange of fire, the wanted person was also injured, and he was handcuffed by the police.
