Dhimitër Meçi is attacked with a knife in Malandrino prison...
Just a few days after the brutal murder of Albanian Jani Aliaj, another knife attack has occurred in Greek prisons.
According to the newspaper " Protothema ", this time the target was Dhimitër Meçi, the 'killer' from Gjirokastra who attempted to eliminate the 'boss' of the Greek mafia Giannis Lalas.
According to Greek media, Meçi, known by the nickname "Dhimos", is a well-known figure in Greek criminal circles and was involved in the assassination attempt on Greek mafia boss Giannis Lalas. He was shot with a Kalashnikov rifle, but Lalas escaped.
Meçi was stabbed shortly after being transferred to the high-security prison in Malandrino, leaving him injured. According to Greek authorities, he is linked to important names in the Greek mafia, including Panagiotis Vlastos.
Dhimitër Meçi, was arrested in December 2025, as a suspect in the attempted murder of Greek mafia boss Giannis Lalas. Dhimitër Meçi, known for short as Dhimo, was arrested after an operation by the so-called Greek “FBI”, along with 5 other people, 3 Albanians and two Greeks, including a woman.
They are accused of the incident of May 16, 2025, when a motorcycle opened fire on the armored Mercedes-Benz vehicle of 41-year-old Giannis Lalas. He was shot at about 40 times, but the armored car escaped. The incident took place in Ano Liosia, Athens, where the target was pursued by the two assailants.
Lalas, a well-known name in Greek mafia circles, was arrested and later released for the murders of Greek journalist George Karaivaz and boxer Hari Kontogiorgi.
