Police corrected the initial assessment of the accident, stating that the only victim is the bus driver, while 12 passengers are receiving medical treatment, 7 of them in serious condition. Meanwhile, 1 child has been brought back to life.
The State Police has updated data regarding the serious accident that occurred on Tuesday afternoon on the Durrës-Tirana highway, in the Qafë Kashar-Casa Italia segment, where a bus on the Berat-Tirana line went off the road and overturned.
According to the official explanation, only the bus driver, citizen RH, 36 years old, resident of Kombinat, Tirana, lost his life in the accident. Meanwhile, the number of injured is 12 passengers and not 15, as initially reported.
Of the injured, 7 are in serious condition, while 5 others have suffered minor injuries and are out of danger. All are receiving medical treatment.
The police explain that the confusion in the first report was created due to the aggravated situation at the scene and the transportation of the injured to several hospital structures. A child, who arrived at a private hospital without signs of life and was initially reported as a victim, was brought back to life thanks to the immediate intervention of the medical team with resuscitation procedures. He was then transported to the Military Hospital, where he continues to be kept under intensive care.
The special investigative group, under the direction of the Prosecutor's Office, continues investigations to determine the cause of the accident and to fully document the circumstances of the event.
"Updated information and clarification of data on the serious road accident, which occurred around 15:00, on the Durrës-Tirana highway, in the Qafë Kashar-Casa Italia segment.
Following the media statement given by the Director of the Traffic Police, First Officer Perlat Vatoci, in which it was stated that as a result of the accident two citizens had lost their lives and 15 other citizens were receiving medical assistance, after verifying the information it results that:
As a result of the accident, a citizen lost his life, specifically the bus driver, citizen RH, 36 years old, resident of Kombinat, Tirana.
Also, 12 citizens, passengers on the bus, were injured, not 15 citizens.
Of the injured, 7 citizens are in serious condition, while 5 others have suffered minor injuries and are out of danger. All injured are receiving the necessary medical assistance.
The confusion in the initial reporting was caused by the serious situation at the scene and the transportation of the injured to both the state hospital and a private hospital. A child, who arrived at the private hospital with no signs of life and was initially reported as a victim, was brought back to life by the medical team through resuscitation procedures.
The child was then transported to the Military Hospital and is under intensive medical care.
