The Italian anti-mafia file on the crackdown on an Italian-Albanian criminal organization involved in cocaine and heroin trafficking has been secured.
The international organization was discovered by Italian authorities, after an in-depth investigation led by the Anti-Mafia Prosecutor's Office in Bari, in cooperation with the Albanian SPAK and German authorities.
At the center of the investigation by the Italian authorities are 29 people suspected of involvement in international trafficking of narcotics, mainly heroin and cocaine, originating from Albania and the Netherlands, destined for the Italian market. Together with the number of people under investigation in Albania, the total number of arrest warrants is 52.
According to the investigative file, the organization had as its main leader citizen Xhevdet Troplini.
Xhevdet Troplini's main intermediaries in this activity are suspected to have been Adi Çoba and Elvis Doçi, known as "Visi i Pojës".
"The organization, based in Italian cities such as Bari, Brindisi, Lecce and Mola di Bari, had divided functions among its members, including the transportation, storage, processing and distribution of narcotics on the Italian market. The economic benefits deriving from illegal activities were secretly sent to Albania," the Italian file obtained by Euronews Albania states.
A key element in uncovering the activities of this criminal organization was the testimony of the repentant Albanian justice official Nuredin Dumani, a person known for his connections in the criminal world in Albania.
Dumani, who has agreed to cooperate with Albanian justice in the framework of SPAK's investigations, has provided detailed testimony on the functioning of the criminal organizations in which he was involved, including connections with Troplini's group.
His testimony has helped build a clear picture of international drug trafficking, the involvement of several key individuals, the routes used to transport narcotics and the distribution methodology. The information he provided has been used by Italian authorities and has contributed to strengthening the charges against some of the suspects.
Among the other people included in the Italian file are Erigels Presi, Agron Ganaj, Nuredin Kiptiu, Leonard Shakaj, Zenit Shtraza, Indrit Tafili, Ekil Nderjaku, who are suspected of various roles within the criminal organization.
The operation covers a period of time from 2016 to June 2022 and constitutes one of the largest coordinated interventions against drug trafficking between Albania and Italy.
