Leonard Hide, the socialist mayor of Libohova, has been charged by the Special Prosecutor's Office, for the criminal offense of abuse of office.
He is suspected of allowing the cultivation of narcotic plants for a profit during his tenure as the head of the Crimes Section at the Gjirokastra Police Station.
Based on the data available from the services as well as the recent events that took place in the "Cepo" and "Picar" administrative units, they create reasonable suspicions that in addition to the persons involved in this activity, police officers were also implicated.
They had the legal obligation to reveal the criminal activity, but they allowed this activity against rewards and through their actions and inactions". In the same file with Hide are several other defendants.
SPAK asked for two weeks to decide whether or not to keep the case against him due to the fact that the suspicions of a criminal offense are before he became mayor.
It was the court of Gjirokastra that declared the lack of competence and brought the file to GJKKO for Hiden.
Hide himself said that when he ran for the post of mayor, he was not aware of the investigation that was being conducted against him. He has even said that if necessary, he will resign from the post of mayor, in order to face justice.
"When I ran for mayor, I was not aware of the investigation. If necessary, I will leave as mayor to face justice," said Hide.
Hide received the mandate as mayor of Libohova, from the local elections of May 2023, where he won with 1401 votes against his opponent.
