Police in Granada, Spain, have busted a criminal gang suspected of extorting a woman from whom they demanded payment of €150,000 for an alleged debt owed to her late husband. All its members, a total of four people, including the leader of the group, have been captured.
All those arrested were left in prison after appearing before the judge.
According to the Civil Guard in a press release, the leader of the gang was a 34-year-old man of Spanish nationality, while the group also consisted of three people of Albanian nationality between 28 and 38 years old. All of them were arrested in the framework of the so-called operation "Jamais" as suspected perpetrators of the crimes of extortion, the ongoing crime of robbery by force, damage, forgery of documents, possession of weapons without a permit, counterfeiting of currency and belonging to a criminal gang. .
The Civil Guard learned last October that a woman was receiving threatening messages via WhatsApp to her late husband's phone number from a phone number with an English prefix, demanding payment of 150,000 euros.
The Civil Guard investigators were strategically placed and acted just as the woman gave them the money they asked for. At first, two of the group members were arrested, while the other two with the agents fled and were arrested shortly after in a popular shopping mall.
