A 38-year-old Albanian man died Saturday evening in Italy after a high-speed police chase. The young man, whose identity has not been released, crashed into a lamppost and his vehicle overturned.
The incident took place in one of the neighborhoods of Nettuno. According to Italian media, the Albanian escaped from the police after having a large amount of cocaine in his car.
The pursuit began around 8:30 p.m., when officers were unable to stop two cars at a checkpoint. One of the police vehicles managed to stop the first, driven by a 28-year-old Italian.
The Albanian took a different direction. He entered a rural, unpaved road. Due to the high speed and the potholed road, his car crashed into a lamppost and then overturned.
As a result, the 38-year-old man suffered very serious injuries and died at the scene before the ambulance arrived. His body was taken to the morgue, where an autopsy is expected.
Police found 25 kilograms of cocaine divided into 23 packages in his vehicle. Meanwhile, the Italian arrested in the other car is accused of possession and trafficking of narcotics in collaboration.
