An uncle and nephew in Elbasan have been arrested by police after a scheme to plant TNT in an apartment with the aim of obtaining asylum in one of the EU countries.
The owner of the apartment has been identified as Arbër Pepa.
We remind you that residents of the 'Partizani' neighborhood in the city of Elbasan were shocked by a powerful explosion on Wednesday evening.
A quantity of explosive material was placed on the first floor of a building, causing significant material damage, not only near the apartment where it was placed, but also to other apartments in the building. Fortunately, no one was injured.
But it only took a few hours for the police to uncover the incident and declare that the explosion was fabricated by the owner of the apartment, Arbër Pepa, with the aim of using the incident to seek political asylum in EU countries.
Verifications revealed that the explosives were placed by Arber's nephew, while the latter, along with his family, wife and son, had fled towards Greece.
The TNT explosion also caused material damage to other apartments in the building. Residents say that window panes were broken, and they also recount the moment of the incident.
A neighbor said that the noise was very loud and that she did not know why it happened.
"We heard a very loud bang, we asked what happened. We were afraid to turn on the lights. I'm on the second floor. The windows are damaged. The man lives down here, with his wife and child. But they left in the evening. They have their own house. My mother lives nearby with her brother. We haven't heard of them being problematic. We don't know how this happened."
A man, pointing out the damage to the window, said the explosion sounded like a bomb.
"A powerful explosion knocked the windows to the ground. It's one of the first floors, because they deliberately set it there. The forensic experts were also there. I was at home with my wife and son. We were scared because it was powerful, like a bomb explosion."
Another neighbor emphasizes that she thought a bomb had exploded.
"I said something exploded in our neighborhood. The house shook like crazy. There was an earthquake and the house didn't shake like that. I said maybe a bomb exploded. I was so scared I had nowhere to go. I told my husband what the hell happened."
